Picked it up today. 74 watts per channel. Twin power supplies. 2 phono inputs. Made 1978 to 80 I believe. I paid $50 which is probably too much for a SA purchase, but I liked the look of it, it seems to have gotten good review here at AK, and since my SL-1401 is from the same era, I thought why not. Still have to test it out - it does power up and light-up and I can hear the speaker protection relay click in.
But it has those blasted silly Technics speaker terminals on the rear, like the SB-4000's I used to have. Well, if it works OK I have some chassis mount binding posts I can probably swap in.

It works great
. Needs the pots cleaned and the dust bunnies dealt with. Couple nicks along the top of the front face and scratches on the top of the unit. Heavy sucker - 31 lbs.

but I paid 24.99 for a Technics SA-200 today.
Looks great, and once I replaced the fuses it works great, but I have passed these up before.:scratch2:
I think I bit today because it was the first silver receiver I have seen in many months. It's going to work with me tonight because the FM tuner bulbs went out in my office's (well, cube's) H/K 230A again, and they are a pain in the ar$e to replace.

I too have bought stuff i normally would steer clear of because there was nothing else to buy and i wanted something to clean.....

Picked up a Marantz 150 tuner for $10.00 at an estate auction. I was back in Wichita, KS visiting family and drove by the home of an old friend and noticed an auction was underway. My friend's mother had passed away and his sister was selling everything at auction. My friend had long ago had a falling out with his sister and didn't even know that she was selling off the family assets. Back in the 70's my friend was into high end stereo gear and was always upgrading his gear, but I could never afford anything he had to sell. I remember back in the mid 70's going to the audio store with him to put a deposit down on the soon to be released Marantz 150 tuner. In walking around the auction, I noticed a dusty old piece of audio gear and when I got close enough to inspect it, wha-la! It was the 150 tuner. I hung around for two more hours waiting for the auctioneer to finally get to selling the tuner. I opened the bidding at $10.00 and nobody else bid. I got it home and cleaned it up and it worked great! Even the scope! I looked at the serial number on the back and it said 0001. How cool is that? Needless to say, I'm hanging on to this fine old jewel. I did change out the lamps for LED's and it turned the dial face from green to blue. Absolutely beautiful.
Dual 1219 with a shure v15 II. It didnt spin and was gunked up, so I paid a whopping sum of $15. I took it home and cleaned it up...everything works after a bit of cleaning. I think it must have just been sitting for a long time, once I cleaned it up it looks new, including the dust cover. The only problem with it is I need to help engage the idler wheel by hand to get it started. If anyone has any advice I would appreciate it. Pics coming soon!

You guys got me hooked on SA and Goodwill hunting! I've been scavenging my local thrift shops for 3 weeks now and haven't really found anything worth buying. But I've had some mild success at the yard sales.

Found a Magnavox Concert Grand at a small thrift shop for very little. Unscratched and complete it was. Still working on cap replacement and testing of the amps on some biamped speakers. see thread

NAD 1130 Preamp, dirty case but perfect function, no deoxit needed, $4.95, Parasound HCA 600 power amp, 60WPC, almost new condition, $4.95.
If they were free it would be better, but then I wouldn't have the opportunity to support Goodwill!

That's because Thrift Stores seem to be going towards Ebay now for pricing, along with everyone else. Sucks for people like me who use to live off ebay. oh well.

I bought one off a friend a few weeks ago after seeing how good it sounded. The is one of the nicest sounding consoles I have seen. The free Sears I got sounded like s****.
Best deals? I've gotten a few. My local goodwill doesn't get much for electronics anymore, but a few years ago they did.
- Goodwill- MacDonald 8-track/turntable reciever, works good, used it for years now. Sound isn't great but it's not horrible, not the most power but then again I paid $2.50 and the automatic turntable still works
I packed it away a while ago when we cleaned house, I can't seem to find it right now.
- Garage Sale- Carrena (?) receiver for $1. Been rocking my attached garage for quite a few months now. I paid $1 and the right channel doesn't work but I hooked both speakers to left a & b and it sounds fine. I would guess it's around 50 watts/ channel. Sound quality decent for a cheap black plague product. Oh, and the Sanyo CD player came with a shelf system I picked up for $10, it works for a while, then stops playing.
- Ebay- Pioneer RX-570 all in 1 system, with PD-M403 6 disc Cd, CS-R580 tower speakers, and the original pioneer cabinet for $75. Works absolutely perfect:thmbsp:
- Friend- Fisher RS-1022 reciever, FREE, needed speaker fuses. Has a cracked display, but sounds amazing for a low-end model. Rivals my top of the line '85 Pioneer equipment. It has a few blown bulbs, I have new ones on the way.
- Thrift store- JVC TD-W254 casette deck, $7.00 works great except it won't record or dub. On ebay right now since I already have a 254 so I don't need 2.
EDIT- heres a few pix.
I was looking for my MacDonald reciever, and found these
forgot I had them. They were free, Kenwoods, with 8" woofers. The stickers are gone, so I don't know the model number. Actually have strong clean bass, but neither midrange works so it takes some fine tuning of the EQ to get them sounding good.
