Yeah, that was my thinking - they weigh pretty heavy...haven't tested them, but they have tweeter adjustment and some kind of a reset device, so I assume they weren't bargain basement in the 70's. I'll add driver pics later.

Thanks Jimbofish - you've cracked it - these sound superb. I am playing Songs from the Wood through them - excellent clarity. Here are some more pics.
What is even more astonishing is the same day I bought a CD player for $12.99 and when I got it home I discovered a CD inside - not just any CD. See final pic!!!!

These speakers will clean up really well. Some corner damage at floor level rear, which I can fill. The problem is...how the heck do you get into these? There looks like a removable back, but no screws. Assume, like the Rogers, you go via the woofer...which I have tried to pry out, but seems to be stuck fast. Not too worried, because they work so well. So, there are my $8 American Monitors next to my $14 Goodwill Rogers LS2's on $7 Goodwill stands and a $200-ish CD free of charge! - Goodwill has been pretty good for me, it seems!

It's a MFSL- a Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs issue, which is top-quality.
