919 Binding posts replacement...

I would like to replace my speaker cable binding posts on my AU-919 amp. Anybody out there ever done this? Any advice?

I don't. There's a plastics firm in N. KC that I buy 1/4 sheets from (2' x 4'), and cut what I need from that.

another AK member fits out an AU-919 with binding posts. I recalled it because it gives you another method and most importantly, suggests a source for your plastic (and so so many wonderful, specific parts)....McMaster-Carr.

He even gives the part number there, so if you can't locate a plastics store (most cities have them, however) you can always order it from McMaster. They ship quickly and I've found their prices to be fair.

Best of luck. I'd love to do this project myself some time.

Man I sure wish my 919 had the type of binding posts your original unit had. From past research it appears that some units had individual binding posts and some had ganged spring-loaded. Mine are the spring-loaded clamps. I think those are the type for which a plastic manifold must be made in order to put the nice 5-way ones on there. Not to take away from your refurb here. It looks really great. Enjoy the sweet tunes.

It's not that hard to do. Just get a piece of plexiglass cut to the correct size. Place it on the inside holding it in place with one hand. Then take a drill with a undersized bit for the screw holes and carefully drill the two little holes for the self-threading screws. (Don't drill your fingers!) Then run the two screws into those holes. Mine is very secure with just these two screws.
Then use the correct sized bit for the 8 holes.
It seems that this should work the same when replacing either kind of speaker connections.
