Fine looker, that 500-B! I've always liked the look of that Fisher, it's thought out well. Nice looking original cabinet too. What are you running with it, and how's it sound?

Right now, I'm feeding it vinyl from a Denon DP-1800 with an AT15SS cart.

The Fisher is then feeding a pair of Paul Klipsch's bad boys... you know, the ones that have to stay in the corner all the time.

The sound is not too different from the S/S McIntosh MA-6100 it's replacing... except without the hum (the Mac goes under the knife next for it's 35 year overhaul). That is to say, she sounds great.
 
I've always believed there was real synergy between Mac S/S and Klipsch (PWK having an MA-6100 in the lab at Hope confirmed this). But, I got to say, the Big Ks are really having a ball right now.
 
It's only going to get better as you listen closer. what were some of your first musical selections for this rig? do have any "living stereo" records or comparable vintage vinyl?

The three different colors of the dial now all stand out, whereas before I had a hard time differentiating them. The effect is now more like Art Moderné cut glass signage... an effect designers were tring to imitate with silk-screen on glass.

I'm saving for a 500C right now. They're going for pretty high prices over on that auction site. And thats in unrestored and usually non-functional condition. Every time I think I have enough saved to bid on one, the threshold for success rises above my means.

Can you share the name of the person or shop that did the restoration?

My old friend Thomas J. North. When I got the unit, it was close to mint cosmetically. Tom, using Jim McShane's ideas, brought it up to snuff for the next 40 years.

Not sure where you are, but watch your local and nearby Craigslists, and even Audiogon. The bidding wars on eBay get out of hand (as they are designed to do).
