Well I just had to try it:D

It's crossed over at 4.5 Khz with the stock CV crossover. The woofer seems to play nice well past 2 Khz

As cheap as they appear they aren't horrible...

But the E wave even in this very crude setup sounds pretty damn good so far:music:

Ok Zilch....

Hows about running some 136a's for ewave'n. I kinda got stalled on my 1st pair but should have them done tonight or tomorrow. Pics in a while.

I have been working on my 4301's (re foam and cap) and building my biased 250ti crossovers :banana:

also trying to finish an second "2 channel" room as well as a bunch of other things! :D
 
Anybody tried the Dayton Classic 15" DC380 with ewave? I have a pair in my Valencias and the bottom end is excellent with one port closed. To make the QSC WG work I'd have to do a lot of carpentry but it might be worth it.
The DC380 spec sheet shows a big peak at 1500 hz, so a Zobel would be required t oflatten that I suppose.
I have the D250s but the waveguides are no doubt weeks away.

***EDIT***
I've been playing with my new toys, an 8wpc chip amp that I just built and a Chumby WiFi internet radio. On my desk with JBL Control 1 Monitors I get 95+ dbs with the volume maxed out. Absurdly good for a cheap little system, though a lot of the credit has to go to JBL.

So rather than 'flattening' the top end of the woofer's response with a Zobel (RC) in parallel with teh driver you chose a lower crossover point for the LP section so the rolloff would do the work of reducing the peak. I suppose the 900 hz LE14 LP version would be a good place to start on this.

Due to an Le of over 3mh the DC380s Z is 30 Ohms at 2K. I'm guessing that much L might lead to phase shift issues in the crossover region?

How critical is it that the resistors are raised off from the circuit board? I got antsy and didn't read the directions and placed them directly on the board. I have a few other things I need from Parts Express and could probably order a couple more while I'm at it. Their cheap anyways.

Mine are right on the board. You will have nothing to worry about unless your going on tour and using them for super duty SR applications. I've ran mine at ridiculously loud levels for just this test purpose, one resistor was slightly warmer than ambient temp, and the zobel was maybe slightly warm, and this was loud...WAY loud, wife not home loud...
I wouldnt worry about it unless something very high powered and loud is in your future.

Dunno. It's rare I resort to Zobels, and when I do, they're not textbook.

When there's phase issues, I can certainly see them in the measurements and how the drivers sum.... :yes:

I've been blasting at fairly good levels for about 3 1/2 hours, about 95-100 a meter or two from the speakers, and All the resistors are cool to the touch.
Room temp is about 69 degrees.

Whole lot of etchin' going on!

I etched two pairs of Linkwitz/Riley fourth order crossover boards today.

One pair for Zilch, and one pair for me. Hopefully these have the capability to add time correction, although it will be on a smaller board.

Do you plan to share the schematic for this crossover?

Besides the el cheapo Sansui SP-200 based Econowave (Marsland Le Cavalier 12" + 220Ti w/ Pyle waveguide) for my garage system,
I'm also building an Altec "Malibu" Waveguide (Livingroom friendly?) with twin 414-16 drivers (one in "helper" mode) with QSC horns and B&C DE250 or 500 (still undecided here)
I presume this crossover would suffice?? ;)

Anyone contact QSC to see when the waveguides will be in? It will be four weeks on the 28th since they called and told me they were on back order.

This crossover will be used in the Parts Express $64 trapezoid cabinets, with QSC waveguide, and B&C drivers. It will be developed "live", so the schematic when finalized will be available to all E'Wavers. The standard E'Wave crossover is great, but the L/R 4th order with time alignment should yield a killer Econo system. If this one pans out, we will look at changes necessary (if any) to make it work with the standard EconoWave components. Some adjustment in time values may be necessary due to different woofers being used, but we should get very close. It will add cost, but may provide a huge step up in performance.

If things go according to plan, a smaller board will contain the Zobel components, as well as the time alignment tank components. This will be a fun project for Zilch and I, and will be "online" soon.
