GW Score - SL1500MkII

Okay, how'd I do?

As mentioned it's a Technics SL1500 MkII. Sorry, no pictures yet. No headshell/cart. It's pretty dirty and there's some corrosion on the platter edge. Nothing that a good run through the dishwasher won't cure :D. All wires are intact. I got to plug it in and it seems to run fine. Still pulls strong. The arm is in good shape. The major flaw is the lens over the strobe is missing.

The cost? $15.49!

Doug
PS Also scored 12 albums in great shape for $.49 apiece.

Here's an Update

FWIW
I got the unit home and into the garage (undetected). I thought the strobe cover was broken based on a cursory look in the store, but it's fine and the strobe lights function. Speed is dead on.

Also, it's mostly grime that will easily clean. Unfortunately there is some slight moisture bubbling on the top and front. I think I can fix that, though.

That is one sweet score for 15 bucks!!:thmbsp: And being fully manual, I'll bet the cueing still works, too.
The fully auto (1300MkII), and semi-auto (1400MkII) versions virtually ALL have inop cueing functions because of a design flaw (which is a BEAR to fix).

Congrats on a FINE score!!:D

Here's Some Pics

I've been living with the TT for a couple of weeks and it's fine. Thought I'd post a photo of it. I've also posted one of it next to my SP-15 used for 78s and my $50 pawn shop Teac X-1000R.

In addition, there are two photos of my new DIY RCM.

She looks like she cleaned up nicely. Those were also very popular in the Uk as the SL150MKII with an SME arm. I love the look of those but have been scared off do to the cuing problem.

very nice!

I scored a SL-D2 for $4.98 at a thrift, and recently a SL-1300 for $27.

Nice to get good buys on kit, eh?

The table looks great, and I also dig that odd-looking Technics next to it.

Very nice!

Very cool!!:thmbsp: But do I see a Technics SP-25, turned into a RECORD CLEANING MACHINE?????
That is just plain WRONG.

I said the same thing. He has a SP-15 for a main table. Do you think the willaccept a trade of my SL-D202 for his SP-25???? :D.

Doubtful, LOL!!:D Probably not enough torque from the SL-D202 motor for use as a RCM. Wouldn't hurt to ask, though.

Makes me want to cry when someone's DIY RCM is better than my best turntable.:sigh:

Jeff

P.S. Love your sig!:thmbsp:

Thanks. I cried when I saw that, too.

Take a look at Lowe's/Home Depot for some CPVC tubing to make more cleaning tubes. The clear stuff doesn't last.

:yikes: That's what I thought to. I have an 1800MKII with a bad arm and a few other minor problems, and I just don't have the heart to turn it in to a cleaning machine just doesn't seem rite to me, it's kind of like doing a touch up on the Mona Lisa.

For pulling a part a classic TT, as punishment, I think you owe us detailed instructions on how to do it ourselves... :smoke:

Great looking cleaning table- I'd love to see how you built it, seriously.:thmbsp:

I don't know if you saw this thread: http://www.audiokarma.org/forums/showthread.php?t=138687

I'll take some more detailed photos, including making the tubes when I get back from a business trip.

I seem to have offended numerous people by using the SP-25. If I had used an SP-10 or SP-15, I think I'd understand. I thought the SP-25 was held in lower regard. I didn't tear apart a TT, when I purchased the SP-25 it was the bare TT. I had actually planned on buying a tonearm and mounting it on the base to create a dual purpose machine, but that was before I stumbled on the SL-1500 MK II that precluded the need. I just forged ahead with the original plan. I had actually dismantled a damaged cheap TT to use the platter and spindle, but I couldn't come up with a satisfactory propulsions system.

When I was traveling through Colorado two weeks ago, I noticed a Technics turntable similar to that sitting at a pawn shop behind the Country Buffet in Fort Collins....looked pretty dirty - the price was cheap but being on the road not having the time to package it and ship it home - I passed on it. Just a mention to the CO AKer's if there's any interest. It might still be there.

Fast Eddie?
