I found an extremely nice pair of 1984 Studio Monitor Model 500 Phase VI Savards here in the Baton Rouge area this week. I went and picked them up today and when I say mint condition I mean MINT. Unbelievable. I own 4 pair and these are at the very least the second best pair I own now. It sports two piezo's, one dispersion horn and a 13" woofer. I think the woofer may be an eminence or CTS brand. The cabinets are made of 1 1/2" oak wood. I've always heard Bill Savard bought a load of doors from an old hospital that was leveled back in the early 70's to make the cabinets. Wherever the wood come from they are heavy. These weigh about 75lbs each. 32" tall X 18" wide X 16" deep. Sound incredible to me running on my old Pioneer SX-6000 that pushes about 36 wpc.

I know most here have nothing good to say about these speakers but I love em. Kind of like some people loved Pinto's or Volkswagon beetles. They're just part of my hometown history as they were all made here in BR area. Tell me what you guys think.

BTW, I paid $80 for this pair. :banana:

I remember them making car audio woofers way back. I never knew they made anthing like this.
 
They look like FUN. The cabinet is pretty amazing, too. If you have multiple pairs of the same model, maybe one of the less cherry examples would be a good e'wave candidate.

I'd guess they're a tad forward sounding.
I am glad you like them. In all seriousness, if they're sensitive (which I imagine they are) they might be quite respectable with a fleapower single-ended triode vacuum tube amp, or maybe even a T-amp.
 
I saw a pair at the GW like the first one pictured and passed though. An AK'r familiar with Savard said they actually used solid core doors for the cabinets from a door company down in LA. They are were very heavy.

Yes thats what i've always heard too. I've had some since the early eighties and a friends brother had some in the 70's called "Novel" model. They can be bright if not set up right thats for sure but I like my music a little bright anyways. I listen to classic rock mostly.

Someone please explain what hardy is saying here. Are the flea amps better with the horns?

Your speakers are efficient (take little power to drive) so are good for smaller tube amps. Tube amps can be warm and polite and sometimes make peaky / forward speakers sound smoother and more laid back.
 
My wife purchased 4 (four) of the large (as you have pictured or very similar) Savard Speakers from Bill Savard here in Baton Rouge back around 1973. They were connected to a Marantz Quadraphonic Receiver. :yes: (Anyone remember those, we still have it!)
We used them until approx 10 years ago when we built a house, now they are in storage.... will try to get some pics and post.
The original front grills and the tweeters were replaced by Bill many years ago as to keep them all original Savard materials and workmanship!
Will hate to see them go, just hope they go to a true audiophile!

The Control Knob is on the rear of the speakers near the contacts.

My name is William Savard Jr., and am currently in the beginning stages/considering the possibility of bringing back the line of Savard High Performance loudspeakers. I intend on doing this utilizing new technologies and the high standards of my dad (Bill Savard) and the savard team. I am CONDISERING this project because of the love of the challenge and the satisfaction of bringing back a new generation of loudspeaker line that won more USAC awards during its rein than all other manufactures. I have been working in conjunction with Bill Savard and past Savard technicians whom made up part of the renown SAVARD technical specialist team.

I truly appreciate the help of past fans and members of the Savard team, whom share in the passion and drive of our products and/or abilities. I was referred here by a Savard enthusiast, we enjoy hearing from you as we look forward to your thoughts and ideas. We truly believe that the research done by SAVARD in previous decades, combined with today's technology and a determined team effort will dictate the course of our future. We hope you will be a part of it.

Therefore, I am trying to find SAVARD woofers to further my testing and use as a comparison against my new prototype(s), beginning with the HiQ series. I am looking for woofers that have not been repaired or modified, as to have retained the closest possible parameters to the original specs.

The first step in the cure is admitting you have a Savard Speaker problem.........hiding the problem does no one any good. Pulling the drivers, examining the cabinet, playing them with various amplification is taking the right step in your cure- but in the end you will simply have to acquire more of them. Savard-a-nitious is (+/-) terminal in many cases. You are to far gone now to ever come back.

Drop us a line and extoll the virtues of your condition. If the pain is ever to much just lower the db setting of the amplifier at hand....report back to us that do not have a cure but desperately need one. Savardanitious is an inner ear problem looking for a cure- we hope you can find yours...........
