Pioneer SG-9500 Recap

Just got a SG-9500 from Fleebay today...$60..It just needed a slide which I also picked up $10.

I am going to recap so my thoughts:

1. Replace with the standard Nichicon PW and Nichicon KL
2. Replace with Nichicon Audio series caps..KZ, FG, KW

Any thoughts on this...:scratch2:

There's been a couple threads of very successful SG-9500 recaps. You might search, if thats futile , let me know, i ran one off on hard copy.

Searched and found just 1:
Replaced the power supply caps with Panasonic FC
Replaced the regulators with new 2SD313/2SB507
Replaced the other transistors with low noise Zetex 694B and 795A
Replaced the lytic caps in the EQ with Elna Silmic II
Replaced the mylar caps with Polypropylene caps (Panasonic ECQ-P(Z) and WIMA)

Not sure what you have if you can pass this by..

In the mean time I am going to start a list and will post later today/Sat.
 
OK..Done..The Muse caps do make a difference. Ever more Clean and Deep sound.

Hey there, I think you may be referring to my SG-9500 restoration thread. http://www.audiokarma.org/forums/showthread.php?t=266576

I have actually taken the unit back under the knife since then to replace all the diodes - power and small signal.

I replaced the power diodes with stealth or hexfred units (cant remember) and the small signal diodes with fairchild 1N4148 diodes.

The EQ is in the rack and still sings like a champ to this day!

I personally prefer the sound of the silmic II (RFS) as opposed to the Nichicon KZ/FG/KW/FW but whatever sounds best to your ears is what you should use. For power supplies I typically use FM or FC because of high temp and low ESR.

Also, FWIW I've contacted some IC companies looking for opamp replacements that would be good drop-ins but I have not found any with a comparable pinout. I would have to fab something and that is not a can of worms I have the time to open.

I have had good result replacing the opamps in an EQ like the Sansui SE-7 with burr brown - they are quite satisfactory.

Very nice! Over the last year or so they have started to carry them at the "big" places like Mouser, Digikey, so they can be had at a good price. The only negative thing I have to say about them is that they are physically larger than their Nichicon counterparts so sometimes you have to get creative.
