I'm finally done! Here are my 4-way hodge podge home built speakers. My design criteria was to build 2, strong sounding 4-way speakers around a pair of long ago purchased, 12" Trusonic woofers. Along the way I had much to learn from AK members. Here's my finished product. The cabinets are 3/4" oak veneered plywood with an interior volume of 7-7.5 cubic feet, lined with 1" JM fiberglass duct board. The drivers include; Radio Shack horn tweeters, Pyle Driver Pro, 5" + 8" midranges and the Trusonic 12" woofers. The network is a Dayton Audio 5,000, 625 Hz 3 - way crossover, plus a high pass filter @ 250 Hz to limit the 8". 3 additional variable L-pads allow me to attenuate the upper 3 drivers. The 12'" is allowed to cover as much as it can from 625 Hz and down, while the 8" is limited to 250 - 625 Hz.The speakers are competing against a pair of Marantz HD66's that have seen a rough life. So far I'm very pleased. These are not perfect by any stretch, but at least I finally completed a long overdue project (36 years). I'm open for ideas on what to do to these next. One note, the Pyles were purchased for their frequency range and the fact that they have an enclosed frame so that I didn't need to isolate them in the cabinets. I did make the mistake of buying the 8" midranges, these should have been woofers. Still, the sound is appealing to me.
