Model 14 Replacement Woofers

Vintage is my,way of life
What type of woofers do Altec-Lansing Model 14's use? I seem to find that no one knows, so where do i find/acquire a pair? Also what should they run me...

Just a quick Google search ....

Weird:

The Model 14 woofer never had an official model number - only an internal Altec part number - because it was proprietary for the Model 14 and, as I recall, the 9842-8A/F Studio Monitor.

Those original woofers were cheap stamped frame ceramics made by someone else i think, that Altec purchased a case where Altec can buy them cheaper than they could produce them.

They don't look stamped to me:

(i) I'd be inclined to get a pair of JBL 128H-1(s) from eBay, refoam them, drop them in & then give them a go .
- If they don't work out , toss them back out on the Bay .

(ii) Also ( used ) , the JBL 2203 (a or H ) . Typical refoaming advice applies .

(iii) The GPA 3124 is a contender ( if you prefer to buy new ) .

(iv) The le14a ( 14" ) could be a good choice if the box size of the M14 is over 3 cu ft ( but less than 4 )

the model 14 woofers are difficult to find.

they were made specifically for the model 14.
production stopped when the model 14 was discontinued

they where made in-house by altec, contrary to the myth that they were outsourced.
so finding the same woofer in another brand of speaker is not going to happen.

depending on what the problem is and were i you, i would probably consider repair rather than replacement.

IIRC they are cast frame propietary to the model 14. With just an Altec part #. I think the part# is RCA34633,and the RCA in the part # does NOT mean it was made by RCA. Best thing to do is to call Bill at GPA.He may have a solution for this woofer (3124) maybe.
