Anyone using Dynaudio speakers?

I am considering a pair of Dynaudio speakers and I just wanted to see if there is anyone out there who is using these speakers.

I am looking at the Contour 3.4 or 5.4. I am leaning toward the 5.4s. If you have any experience, either positive or negative, I would really appreciate any input you can provide.

I recently listened to them at a dealer showroom and I was very favorably impressed. They seem like a very accurate speaker. Thanks in advance.

I run Contour 3.3's and love them. They are very revealing of what you put in front of them though. The 3.5 and 5.4 are a bit more benign load than the 3.3's are. I run Odyssey Stratos Mono SE's on them and it works well.

I have a pair of Audience 15s that I have owned for 11 years. The contour series is in another league, obviously.

I am also familiar with the focus series, also very fine speakers and worth auditioning if you haven't heard them.

Yes.

Dynaudio Acoustics speakers/monitors are EXCEPTIONALLY accurate!

I use a pair of BM15A's in my Mastering Studio for stereo mixes.

Accurate, and detailed; with wonderful dynamic range, excellent depth of field, and stereo imaging.

I chose these for Mastering over a pair of Genelec 1031A's, and the better pricing point was only a secondary consideration.

I came very close to buying some Dynaudio speakers. It was going to be either the Confidence C2,C1 or Contour S3.4 for me. I love the detailed sound of the Dynaudio speakers and also found them to be smooth, a combination hard to find. One work of caution, the Contour S5.4 speakers can be very bass heavy in smaller rooms. I did a home demo with the S5.4 speakers in my 11'x16' room and I had to plug the ports to reduce the bass. Some people like their bass heavy, I prefer a flat response.

The Dynaudio Contour S3.4 speakers are my favorite speaker in its price range.

Thanks. I am glad to hear about that. I would like to eliminate my sub-woofer if I can. I prefer flat response if I can get it, but I would rather deal with too much bass than too little.

Could I ask what amplifier you were using to power them?

The Contour Series is outstanding (actually all Dyn's are)...

They require a very good amplifier to get the best from them. No wimpy amps with Dyn's...you can almost get away with it using Audience 42's but anything above that and especially the Contour range, you'd better bring it or go home.

I used McIntosh MC162 and MC501 amps at different times. No big surprise, the MC501s were a much better match. I love the Dynaudio/McIntosh combination.

To get more bass from Dynaudio speakers put them close to the side walls (1-2 feet), this really boosts the bass. I liked them at least 3 feet out from the front wall.

If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, then Dynaudio should feel flattered that the Chinese brand Hi-Vi Research / Swans Speakers has chosen to copy some Dynaudio drivers almost exactly, and especially their woofers. Parts Express carries some Hi-Vi Research drivers and if they copied them closely enough they could be a real bargain for speaker builders.....

Hi,

We use BM 15A speakers in our control rooms and mastering rooms. Very accurate and reliable as a reference standard. I also have JBL 4311 and Tannoys available as monitors. Love Dynaudios. Our newer Volvos have them as well. :tresbon:

Sure, placing virtually any speaker nearer a wall will increase bass through boundary reinforcement.

As you say though, I prefer mine (although not Dynaudio) to be away from the walls as much as possible.
