I got it through Amazon.ca and got a U.S. pressing, but all discs were fine.

Others got the E.U. pressing, so can't tell in advance.

I've been reading about this boxset lately and it seems there are a lot of people upset about the sound/pressing quality of these vinyl.

Seeing how popular the Beatles are it would be nice to hear from some of the vinyl aficionados, that own this, on their opinions of this box set.

I get the feeling that some of the reviews are from the bitter hipster type that accept only first press or no press at all.

Lots of discussions about this box set all over the net on audio forums, just got to search for 'em. My guess is that, as with any large release, there are a percentage of problems that show up and it is the people who encounter those problems who communicate. The multitude of people who have no problems don't post THAT on the net, so it gives the appearance of widespread problems. I hope I get the EU pressing, but won't be unhappy if I get the US pressing as long as the discs are all in good shape, which I fully expect them to be.

Don't have the box set, but some of the individuals. When the LP is good the sound is fantastic. So much detail and soo clear and clean sounding.

Thanks to the OP for the tip.
I went in for this as well, and hoping for clean pressings, be they EU or US.

EU gets the most praise, but have also read that US pressing QC has improved.
We shall see & hear!!

I will wait for the mono. Any body hear any thing yet? I have the 1982? import White album on red vinyl. That album hooked me on mono and the beatles.

I've had the set for around 8 months (US Pressing), and all the records are fine and sound very good. Scary quiet background!
Regards,
Jim

I bought the US stereo vinyl box when it was first released. Had to replace a few defective titles through EMI's replacement program. I now have a great sounding set, that has become my "go to" for Beatles vinyl listening.

Getting the EU set from Amazon.Ca for $200 is a great bargain! I almost pulled the trigger, but didn't know if I'd get another US set or not. I'm pretty happy with the US version of this essential Beatles vinyl collection!

I've noticed here and a few other sites that people prefer the mono to stereo pressing. Is that because the albums were originally mastered in mono thus reproducing more accurately what was originally recorded in the studio?

Has anyone tried buying the original 14 LPs instead of the Box Set or individual 180 LPs? What is the rough cost if ebaying and record storing them instead of taking the short cut via the box set?

Does the Canadian version include the book and everything else included in the US version?

I'm sure it does. The Canadian version from Amazon.ca is either the U.S. version or E.U. Version and both contain the book.

There's many different pre-180g versions (original pressings, orange label, purple label, etc) but since the box set works out to be ~$15-16/LP, I think it'd be hard to beat the price if you wanted flawless playing LP's. I have to think that any mint/sealed original LP's would be more expensive. Though if you didn't want all the LP's, you could probably pick up a subset for less than the box set cost.
