Bookshelf Speaker Recommendations?

Oh, one other thing, have the owner do the surround fitness test. Much better that he pushes through them if they're old.

I'm not sure exactly what that is, but I played them at all levels, with music I like, and we swapped them from left to right to listen for anything out of the ordinary. They sounded really good, the surrounds looked solid and $61 later, they are in my garage!

Congratulations. That's a very nice set of B.A.s there. I'm listening to my Technics receiver (above) at the moment. There's a guy, 'local', who has a set of the larger A100s that I might pick up myself. You can never have too much of a good thing.

Just about any Acoustic Research HO or Hi Res series, before Audiovox bought the name in 2003. I'm using AR15 Hi Res series 6-1/2" two ways for my family room HT front mains, and are very good. Problem is, these aren't easy to find, as not many giving them up.

I've got the 312HO floorstanders in my home theatre setup, pushed by a technics SA-GX670, and they are awesome....

as far as a bookshelf, the 308HO would be my nod, the same tweet and midwoofer (except 1 instead of 2) as my 312's, with a side firing 8.

Surrounds can have the appearance of solid, you actually need to put light pressure to them to see if they've degraded. Sounds like you're happy, they're a nice set of speakers. Enjoy!

Take a look at the BIC DV62si's. I bought a pair a while back to run through my Sansui G-5000. Price was 125.00 and I am telling you, they sound sweet. They are breaking in nicely, handle being pushed, decent base and mid range is sweet. Opinions have varied but for the money I think they are fantastic

Now that I have these speakers in my possession, it looks like I'm going to be doing a little work to them.

1. They need new surrounds. I ordered them. Any tips?

2. What is the best kind of glue to use to glue one of the little prongs back on that hold the grills in place?

Those look like Klipsch knock-offs.

I am immediately turned off to them.

I have a pair of the BIC FH-65B's that I picked up on sale for $165 shipped last spring. They may be a Klipsch knock-off but it was the best bang for the buck that I have ever spent on new bookshelf speakers. I've had others from BIC, Polk and B&W but the FH-65B's are my favorite so far. The bass output from the 6" aluminum woofer is quite surprising and the horn loaded neo-tweeter is crystal clear.

I realize that "knock-offs" from companies like BIC or Behringer turn some off but they quite often offer great value to those can't afford the higher priced models.

hi*ball..good luck with the A70's. They are a nice speaker.
