Cleaning records....

Natitude, like 4-2-7 says:
Some cracking/popping during playback is from dirt, some can be from damage and some can be from static.
Typically a huge percentage of the dirt can be removed but groove damage, not so much. So that's the gamble of buying any used record on line or one you can hold in your hands. Doesn't even really matter if the rating is visual or audible. It all boils down to is it cleanable without excessive groove damage?

All you can really do is test one or two from your VG seller. It's basically the same thing as buying out of the $1 dollar bins. Whatever money you're willing to risk.

Natitude, spend the 7 bucks on dent pullers at Harbor Freight (they work wonderfully to cover label) and 3 bucks on one of those corner paint pads. They really scrub off the crub.

And cannot overstate the importance of the final rinse with distilled water. This is where you'd use hi*ball's econowand, or one off that auction site, but until then, just allow to air dry. For my 3 cents, microfiber cloths are a mixed bag, and often impart static electricity (which is bad).

New member enthusiasm is contagious. I want to scour the bargain bins and clean some vinyl today (day off).

Final thought - some vinyl is noisy as crap and looks mint. Other vinyl can be flimsy, ugly, and have tons of superficial whispy scratches, and sound awesome.

Like predicting the weather, nearly too many variables to predict.

A trip to harbor freight is in order then... have one not 5 minutes from my house. And what site is the econowand on? I googled hi*ball's but all that's coming up is energy drinks... pretty sure that's not it:dunno:
