Considering a move from Virginia to Cleveland, Ohio. Anyone on this forum live there?

Hi Kelsa. As a military brat I grew up on Marine air stations all over the country. About 1975 my parents setteled in Cleveland so here I am! Since about 1988 I lived in the suburb of Lakewood. Just recently I moved a bit further west into Westlake.

I love the state of Ohio :thmbsp:

The city of Cleveland itself has improved big-time since the 1970's.

...Tubino yes, Play It Again Sams is still in buisness. Located in Lakewood. I'm not aware of a vintage dealer anywhere having as much cool stuff as Sams. His prices are high though....don't expext too many bargins. I drop in every once in a while just to check out what he has in stock.

To summarize the Eastside vs. Westside points of view -

Eastsider: "Westside is full of pierogi-eating dumb polaks. And it's so far away! God, I hate going to the airport."
Westsider: "Eastside is a good place to get shot. And it's so far away! Glad I don't live there..."

Im about 30 miles south of cleveland right now, does that help. :D

Just kidding. If you move there, buy a gun. Everyone else has them.

Hey, I'm a Polak and I live on the East Side!

Tough call. Not that it's hard to think of good things here but it's so different, a rust belt city vs anywhere in Virginia!

I've always kinda viewed Cleveland as a little Chicago. It don't hold up completely but it's a good off the cuff cheater description in my opinion. I know, the MoTowners are laughing at that one. ;)

What's important to you? For years I drove to work on the other side of town right through downtown Cleveland and it took me 45 minutes each way in rush hour. Outside of rush hour only 25 minutes. This plus MLB and the NFL as well as other attributes of a larger city, such as the aforementioned Cleveland Orchestra (which is a must hear, for sure, even if you only come up to check out the city) and various food/entertainment/etc. No NHL, though.

My dad settled the family here because he thought it'd be a good place to raise a family, I've gotten this from other folks who've relocated here as well. But like any/many towns there are a lot of choices based on income and lifestyle. The cost of land is quite reasonable for an urban area which helps keep housing prices affordable.

If you pm me I'd be happy to help any way I can. Good luck to you regardless.

Pete

To tell the truth, Richmond had DREADFUL weather...When you got there in late Aug/early Sept., it was HOT, sticky & miserable. Towards the end of Sept, you'd have 2-3 weeks of absolutely GORGEOUS, cool, bright blue skies...and then the Monsoon season would begin. Cold, rainy, dreary, wade mud for 4-5 months. Then, you'd have spring, 2-3 weeks of nice...then, hot, sticky, miserable again. Easter Sunday 1976, we were sittin' in the dorm, 10 o'clock in the morning, it was 92 & about 98% relative humidity...we were sittin' in our skivvies w/ wet washcloths all over us trying to get cool. The school still had the heat on in the dorms, it had been 45 the week before...

Being close to the lake has the effect of lengthening fall. Clevelanders enjoy a lingering, sweet autumn of mild temperatures and dazzling colored leaves. University Circle looked like a postcard in mid-october but in my hometown, trees were already totally nekkid, sky was always grey, etc.

The real snow only falls out east of town in the 'snow belt'. Lake effect, good stuff.

It's ideal weather just about every day from the last week of May until early in July, then the hygrometer can climb up pretty high.

Sorry, DrAudio. Hasn't the relocation program moved you back to your proper side yet? :)

Thanks for the tip on play it again sam. I'll have to check that out it looks like it's in lakewood. I looked at every thrift and pawn shop around for a decent TT but found nothing. Finally found a dual 604 at a yard sale this weekend.

Report back on that, will ya? I'm curious if it's still what it used to be.

www.playitagainsam.com is their website looks like they have lots of goodies.

Thanks for the offer on the manual but I actually got the manual and brochure with it.

My name does stand for having a blower on a si. Had a 99 civic si with over 30k invested in it; basically nothing was stock on the car. 13lbs of boost, hondata, methanol injected, etc. Traded it for a much slower 04 srt4. Since the neon is turbocharged I guess I should be suckedneon lol.
