Unfortunately, my sister's new vehicle only plays MP3s in the flash drive, so I have big a job ahead of me, with no sonic reward.

Can anyone tell me what converter out there can let me grab the raw a batch of WAV files and convert them to Mp3?

Thanks in advance!

For Mac, I like xACT (audio compression toolkit). And, it does a whole lot more than mp3; FLAC, tagging, SHN, file renaming, a whole bunch of various lossy formats are also supported.
I don't do mp3, except very rarely. But when I do, it is a very simple process.
Its free.
You can preview it (slide show), or d/l it here: https://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/14246/xact

xACT for MAC. Don't use much cuz son't often use the powerbook ... too effin' cludgy and lacking transparency -- hallmark of iOS ask me.

dBpoweramp for Windows.

I use dBpoweramp Pro for converting audio codec formats of all types and @ all directions, tagging (and untagging) metadata, some other stuff. BATCH CONVERSION capable.

Last time I did bulk conversion I used Foobar. You can select a file, a folder, or a location. After it sees all the files then just right click on the list and select convert. There are various option for the conversion, file type, location, etc.

What car is this? Is there no simple option to just plug a phone in and stream music over USB or using an aux-in?

Converting tons of files to mp3 sounds like a big waste-o-time.

I was gonna add this ... all I do is attach any of my (four) SANSA Clip Plus players, via 1/8 plug, to the AUX-in jack @ my in-dash "car audio unit" and it plays perfectly.

It has been a long time, but I successfully used foobar2000 to batch convert a folder full of FLACs to MP3 for just this reason.

Back in the Bad Old Days when my data wasn't good enough to stream and I spent lots o' time in the car, I had this same issue, I just set the conversion to run overnight, it only took maybe 20 minutes of actual work and then you just walk away. I haven't updated my thumb drive in years though as my commute is now about 15 minutes.

Cars with Apple Play like my Honda Passport make this requirement. They also support both BT and aux input.

My phone does not share the capacity of an inexpensive thumb drive so I prefer that route. Batch transcoding is quick and easy using dbPoweramp.

+1:thumbsup:
I have tried just about all the free file conversion utilities. freac is also my choice for any type of conversion
I’ve only just begun, (over the last year) converting vinyl to digital. Up until reading this post, I was really only aware of Audacity, which is what I’ve been using fairly successfully. In the beginning I wanted to convert to FLAC to retain better sound quality, then I realized my 2016 Toyota doesn’t play Flac files. However, each time I convert an album I export it in both MP3 and FLAC. I’m still trying to determine if there is a way I can create a “larger” MP3, (mp4??) that would transfer a better quality over into digital format?
