Is the Fisher Executive X-202 any better sounding then the 500B? Are the power tubes harder to get than the 7591? Can it be mounted in a wood cabinet?

The X-202 is a 7189 integrated amplifier. The 500B is a 7591 tube receiver. All else being equal I prefer the 7189 amp. It has larger power and output transformers if memory serves right. The X-202 does provide less power for speakers however and requires more efficient speakers. The output tubes should be readily available for both. The X-202 will fit in any of the mid-sized fisher cabinets used for the X100, X200 integrated amps and tube tuners (FM 100, FM 200, R200) tuners.

Good luck.

Any links to this intergraded. I'M looking for specs and dimensions. Will the JBL Apollo C51's with the LE14 driver,16 ohm be efficent enough? Can anyone compare the differences between the 500b and this... if any? What is the power difference? Did the Executive X-202 come out of a console or was it sold on it's own?Can you use EL-84's

So the Executive which I beleive came out of a console has a different face plate will still fit in a fisher cabinet?

Yes. The faceplates between the console model and the stand-alone are the same size. Only difference is the silkscreening. If it says EXECUTIVE on the faceplate it came out of a 1961 Executive VI Model 880. Specs and dimensions are in the Service manual at www.fisherconsoles.com

The 6bq5 is the Us Designation for the basic tube. 300V on the Plates Max.
EL-84 is the EUROPEAN designation for the Basic tube. 300V on the Plates Max.
7189 is a Heavy Duty 6bq5/el84 with a capacity for 400+V on the plates. They can be used in a 6bq5/el84 amp. Depending on the plate voltage, a 6bq5/el84 can be used in a 7189 amp, but not often or well.

The russian equivalent is the 6P14P (or 6n14n) for the el84/6bq5
The russian equivalent is the 6P14P-EV (or 6n14n-eb) for the 7189.

The guy selling it say's it's 8 watts. That doesn't sound right to me. The EXECUTIVE seems rare and expensive. But how does it sound?

As I don't have one I can't comment on how it sounds. The best judge's are your own ears. As for Tech spec, 80W IHF(total power) which works out about to 26w-30W RMS total. The 6bq5 family sounds somewhat different than the 7591 family of tubes. A bit more airy, and having a little tighter control of the bass, all other being equal IMO. This is based on comparison between my 800-C's, 400 (both 7591 family types); a TA-600 and a Custom Electra VI (Both 6bq5 family). The 6bq5 family puts out approx 12-14W in push-pull configuration at max dissipation per channel. Most are set for 80% dissipation for tube life and safety.

Are they any differences between the EXECUTIVE and the X202B?

There should be no differences between an Executive x202 and a straight X202. The X202b is a 7591A integrated amp that is second from the top in Fisher's tube integrated line up. It is very highly regarded, but all else being equal, I prefer the 202 over the 202b.

I agree with Modegard. Power is about 18 watts RMS per channel for the X-202, with the power amplifier section and transformer set basically being those used in the SA-100.

I have an X-202B that I dearly love, but there is something special about my X-202. Hard to put a finger on it as they both sound great, but the X-202 is special imo.

This is what I'm looking at. Did this always come in a console or did they sell it as a stand alone too? Will it fit nicely in a fisher wood cabinet? Does it have enough power to drive my JBL Apollos C51's. They are 16ohm and have the LE14a drivers and LE85 horn...

Every Executive component I've seen was in a console. You should have enough power to driver a 16 ohm speaker easily.

I can't find the dimensions on the Executive. Will it go in one of the fisher wood cabs? Are all X-202's Excecutives or did they have just a stand alone X-202?

If you don't want it, I'll take it as a spare. I have a '61 Executive. It's 66 inches long, about 30 high and 28 deep.

It also has an AM FM tuner, phonograph, reel to reel tape recorder, multiplexer and 8 speakers so there's plenty of room for the amp.

The X202 may not have been a powerhouse but was one of the most attractive amps. 5he brushed lacquered faceplate and 5 colored indicator lamps ooze Fisher quality.

The biggest problem is the power/volume/compensation switch. They're almost impossible to get repaired.

I was meaning what size is the X202 only. I want to compare it to my 500B Faceplate...
also what years did they make the Executive and what years did they make the 500B. I have no idea what year my 500B is.

About the same. I've also got a 500b. Overall, I think I like the sound of the 500 a bit more. Of course, finding an optimal location for a gargantuan console isn't the easiest.

The 202 is a nice piece. Limited production and from the golden age of Fisher equipment. If you find you don't like it, you can always pass it on.

How is the faceplate?

The executive version of the X202 is a 1961 model as I noted in Post #8. The 500B is a 1962 model.

Dimensions of the FISHER 10-U cabinet are 6" x15-11/16" x 12-1/2" (HxWxD).
Dimensions of the X-202 and X-202B are 4-13/16" x 15-1/8" x 12-1/2" (HxWxD).

500 is larger.....
Dimensions of the 30-U Cabinet are not known to me. (This cabinet is used in the "B","C" model 500 & 800's plus the 400. )
Dimensions of the FISHER 500-B are 5-3/4" x 17-1/2" x 13-1/4" (HxWxD)

The standalone X202 is IDENTICAL to the Executive X-202 except for the lettering on the Faceplate.

He say's the faceplate is pristine. I don't see any blemishes on it and the lettering is all there in the pic... I so love my 500B but I'm drooling over the looks of the Excecutive plus I don't use the FM in the 500B... Some have suggested getting separates. Well to me, I think getting rid of the FM components that I don't use should only make an Intergraded sound better. I don't know... Like you said if I don't care for the sound I can always sell it,as long as I get it for your right price. My eyes are steering me in this direction not my ears... It sure does look perdy...
