Fisher RS-1060 Price

Not sure of the worth, but its a awesome performer. Reminds me sound wise, of a 2270 Marantz, but with more power.

He's asking $200 for it so I might have to go and get it this weekend if it's still available. It's not real close but even after gas I'd have less than $250 in it.

Thanks for the input.

I would pass at $200. Missing a knob and the antenna drops the value significantly. It would have to be perfect I'm thinking to spend that kinda money. And in the end it's still a SS Fisher.

Whoa there, that last statement is fighting words to some around here :bash:(Fisherdude comes to mind). I have an RS-2150 which sounds quite good up against my Pioneer and other TOTL receivers. :music:

I'm not bashing anyone's else's gear but just yesterday I walked by a RS1058 in very nice shape for $150 at the local flea. It's been there a while so apparently I'm not the only one that doesn't see much value in them.

Though it's a Fisher, it's a BEAST (900 watt draw from the wall)! I owned a 1060 and it smoked every 100+ wpc receiver I've ever owned. The phono stage is beefy and sounded awesome! I'd offer $150 and see if he bites.

I have a pretty extensive collection of the "monster" receivers, and I rank the RS-1060 right near the top. Perhaps they are not as well known (the SS Fishers of that era)?

Thanks for all of the responses. I'm not really looking for something because of the collectability but for the sound and price. If I did get this Fisher I would want to replace the knob and the antenna. I wouldn't have to have an original replacement antenna though.

I'm able to put more money into a unit than the $200 but from what I've seen on Ebay the big receivers bring quite a bit more money than that. Any suggestions for something with better sound for not a lot more money would be welcomed. I want to stay vintage though.

I don't listen to my music real loud so I don't have to have the big watts but it is nice for the few times that I would want to crank it up.

I'm not experienced in vintage equipment but do have a Fisher RS-1052. It's just coincidence that this other receiver is Fisher because I'm open to any brand.

Danny

The RS-1060 is a big jump up in performance from the 1052. It certainly wouldn't hurt to audition it to get your own take.

The 1058 is the model number of the one I saw that's homeless. It's 90wpc and retailed for $550. The 1060 is 125 wpc. and retailed for $700. Both are motl receivers as the 170 wpc 1080 was the big step up and retailed for a grand.

I agree the RS-2015 is a beast, and flashy looks too. The RS-1060, and RS-1080 are cheap looking ugly ducklings compaired to it but their sound will put a smile on your face too. I bought all three, and IMO, even though the RS-1060 is rated less it is the best sounding SS Fish of the three. The RS-1080 can and will drive a set of speakers harder than the RS-1060 and RS-2015, but the RS-1060 sound grew on me at first listen. It has a sound of it's own, and it is not the sound of crap. :music:

I don't know why folks say things like "at the end of the day, it's still a SS Fisher''. Maybe so, but the three above are damn fine sounding ones for sure. Not many have took the time to listen to a Fisher RS-1060.. they think they all sound like some 5.00 bottom of the line yardsale receiver. That is not true with the bigger dogs above and the RS-1060 especially has a very nice sound indeed. There IS a few guys on AK that know exactly what I'm talking about.

So I'm guessing that you think a cosmetically challenged 1060 is worth 2 Franklins and $50 in gas? Ok now just suppose that Fisher needs to be looked at as the new owner (like myself) can't replace that blown cap or whatever. So factor in another $100-$150 for repairs. So now you're into it say $350- $400 for a motl ss Fisher. Thanks but no thanks.

I would not classify the RS-1060 as "motl". If I did not have one, I would pay the $200 and $50 gas..and once I got there, if it tested out good, I would snap it up. But, admittedly, if I had not listened to one before, I would have second thoughts about that.

Sorry folks, but I gotta agree with this. Fisher SS gear is MOTL at best and has questionable resale value if you are merely looking for a flip. In my opinion, most anything labeled "Fisher" beyond the years of Avery Fisher's direction, is somewhat nice and reasonably priced for what it is. I won't argue the fact that, given the published specs, it may seem to be a bargain. But for myself, I'd prefer to save my $$$ and apply them towards something that will truly reward me for many years to come. Yes, I could spend $200-$300 for every silver-faced, 80-120wpc receiver that comes along. Or, I could keep that money and apply it towards something that is in another category of vintage equipment. You wanna buy a '66 Tempest now, or save for that GTO in a few more years?

Not looking to start a war here. I know that the higher-end Fisher SS gear has its fans and I respect that. I'm even fairly certain that some of it is very nice. But for the kind of dollars being discussed here, I'd want something a bit further up the chain and not missing any cosmetic pieces. I already know that I'll likely have to do some amount of technical restoration and chasing down knobs and such would only be something I'd be to do for a piece I knew I could recoup my money from should I choose to. Just my opinion, mind you.

Respectfully,
Dave

And just so everyone knows, I have nothing against Fisher gear. I own several examples of Avery's expertise from the late 50's and early 60's.

Or you could spend maybe three times the money for another brand with same power and blow a cap in it too. My point is that if you are happy with the sound it produces then chances are you may not want sell it anyways. Why do you think mine has been in my living room since about 06? I had an SX-1250 in it's spot once but for the money it was smarter for me to keep the Fish and put the money in my pocket. The sound is there, and being an original late 70's unit I can hardly call it junk. It's all in what a person feels it's worth to them.

I'd say to the OP to check it out before buying. If it sounds good to his ears then it's a matter of choice from there. I gave probably more than that after the cost of shipping for one of mine and it was missing 5 of the 6 small knobs. So yeah, to me personally, yes I would spend the 2 Franklin's and the gas. I plan to have one of mine completely gone through one day and I'm sure it'll come with a cost that could in no way be recovered, but it's a keeper so it doesn't matter.

The very handsome Fisher RS-1058.
Well built with 90 watts per channel, excellent FM section and sounds good.
