ambitious but rubbish
Goodwill-

I live near Albany NY and the Goodwill there NEVER has anything of value. I can only assume anything that looks remotely valueable goes directly on to their online auction site. I keep seeing threads where people find speakers at GW for $5. Well they sure arent finding them here!!

Salvation Army-

I am convinced that the people who work there take any electronics donated and simply put them directly in their car and take them home. 10 years ago I would go there and there would be about 10 pairs of speakers to choose from at all times. I found some AR-5s, BIC Venturis, Advents etc etc. Now its nothing but HUGE CRT Televisions.

Anyone else frustrated??

I choose exactly what I want via new and used outlets after strenuous research. Business and charities are in business to make money. Except for the random fluke here and there that got me a great turntable for $20, (and $200 in add-ons/tinkering) I fail to see how thrifts can be considered serious shopping outlets for the audio hobby.

Topics that have been beaten to death, and we’re done with them:
Complaining about eBay buyers who use sniping programs, or complaining about sniping in general.
Complaining that your local thrift store or charitable organization store is too expensive and/or never has anything interesting.

Complaining about sellers who find out what their item is really worth before you have the opportunity to make your “score”.
Complaining about “flippers”.

Nice disc player on the first page. That is a good find. Not interested in anything else posted there though.

You will notice this is my first post...

So your goodwill stores still get audio equipment?

Well, alright I will keep checking! I just assumed times have changed and all the good stuff goes to the auctions.

HI and welcome to AK.

Wanted to get that in before this thread is closed.

before this is closed... hi

in my experience having moved recently the same has been true in both places for me at least.

some stores will seem to have nothing over and over and then one day bam something great

others will seem to have ok stuff at hight prices and then you'll go one day and find something kewl for small money

and then some places will pretty consistently have ok stuff at ok prices ....

for my part I'm always willing to pay a bit more at the stores that are a bit better organized and cleaner .. but then again my nearly mint SX-3600 is from one of the grubbier thriftstores around here... didn't exactly scroe on it either $70 but I wanted one for awhile...so i was happy.

I was at GW a few weeks ago. A few customers and a couple of staff were sorting out some vintage piece that looked like it was from the 30's. Went to the restroom came back the guy that was educating them was still around but the piece was sent to the back....gone "by staff"? maybe.
