Help Identify These Speakers

Noborigama

The owner of these speakers thinks these are Pioneer Speakers, can any of you confirm this and do you know the model? She has them for sale, and I'm wondering whether their worth picking up? Thanks for your help! :scratch2:

A few high quality Japanese brands did make circular speakers, but those ain't them.

I'd vote for Zenith. Friend in college had a pair, circa 1967-68. I always thought they were an interesting concept.

Hey, you can rule out Harmon Kardon...I have that pair. Mine are solid wood construction. They're more nostalgia than anything IMO. They don't sound awful, but they're only rated @ 15-25 watts. They are a conversation piece for sure.

If there cheap, I would pick them up just for the omni- defuser on top. Then use it to play around with the current crop of fullrange drivers.

Actually the driver Zenith used isn't bad -- and, as I've commented before, they are terrific outdoor speakers just as they are -- the omni design seems to make them more uniformly audible, and while there is no deep bass, its hard to produce deep bass outside anyway, and with the limited high end from the 6" driver, they sound reasonably balanced that way.

A guy on that site was selling a set of HK's for a BIN price of $650. Huh?? I actually emailed him that maybe it was a misprint and he was really asking $65. Nope!

I must say though, the Allegro model that is square, but otherwise the same, is a much-underrated speaker. I say this with complete lack of bias, as I own a pair. It has an alnico woofer firing down and a Foster horn tweeter firing into the diffuser. Very nicely constructed box as well. Exceptional highs and upper mids, in my opinion.

Hey sealy.

My mom had a Zenith 4 channel with four of those square up/downfiring Allegro speakers.

I don't remember specifics but do remember me and my friends thought they rocked. A great memory, thanks.
