My latest find, an Harmon Kardon 330C.

My first listen is very favorable. The FM section is extremely nice. A quick listen to some vinyl also was very favorable.

I had no idea that such nice sound was available with these receivers. I've never owned an HK, and I can't say that I've ever heard one.

How many of you guys have experience with these?

Its no 8080DB, but I'm thinking that in its power range, it's pretty darned good. It will even drive my New Advents and sound good doing it.

Its wasn't something I needed, but I was curious, and the price was right. Its pretty much near mint condition.

nice find! it looks mint!! :thmbsp:

The 330c with Advents is a good match, bass can be a bit extreme though.

I did have to turn the bass down a little or it gets a bit mushy.

I that because the Advents aren't very efficient, or is it just the low wattage of the 330C?

It sounds great. I played a few cassettes that I recorded, and listened to a CD.

For a budget unit, it's actually got a lot more than low end sound, for SURE!

The 330c just has a tube-like sound, which is warm (warm means pronouced bass) your Advents also are known for being warm, so when you put the two together it will sound REALLY warm which is good for some people and bad for others.

Ahhhh!

The only tubes I've ever listened to music through, was the old school "consoles", like Curtis Mathes TV all in ones.

I can feel it. Kind of "cozy" for lack of a better word. Nah...warm is better.

The FM is quite sensitive, and brings in my favorite stations just as well as the 8080DB. The 8080DB beats it for the splendid soundstage it has. But I expected it to.

Amazing that these little suckers are being "re-discovered" again after all these years. The prices I've seen them selling for on eBay have been surprising to say the least. Quite an accomplishment for HK's bottom of the barrel in the 70's.

I picked one up and although I used to sell them, I was amazed at how nice the unit is as a quick one touch system. A great radio sound since it is a second system in a room. A lot easier to push that red on-off button and start listening than to turn on the preamp, wait for the tubes to warm up, turn on the tuner and amp and wait for the amp to complete its checks and pass signal.

Just my 2c.......................

For ME at least, I've found that the H-K gear is less reliable than similar gear from Marantz, Sherwood, Nikko, and others from the same time period?

The Harman-Kardon 330C is one of the best low powered receivers ever made. Sounds superb, well engineered, and one of the prettiest receivers made on styling and layout. Looks classy. One of the best buys for your bedroom, office, or other second system. A delight for eye and ear. Nice, warm, easy to listen to sound which is non-fatiguing through a long day.

I tend to agree.

Thanks for posting that. I hooked up a 330c and some AR4's for my oldest boy several years ago. It sounded like mud. Couldn't figure it out.... thought I was doing something wrong. I'll have to pull out that receiver and hook it to some other speakers....... and maybe recap those AR4's ??

The 330c is Awesome. Excellent tone.
I just re-capped my Klipsch KG4's with sonic caps and for the bass cap an Axon, and they are hooked up to the
330c.
Sounds Spectacular. Very Tubelike. I think it will just get even better as the caps burn in?
My Leak st20 is in England getting redone by Paul at Classique Sounds,
So I figured it was the perfect time to recap the speakers and use the 330c.
I am thrilled with it!

I recently acquired a 330/C model from member MAXZ28. I have it hooked up to my garage sale INFINITY REFERENCE TWOs in the garage. They seem to work great together - the TWOs being a little shy on bass output and the 330/C putting out that warm, "tube-like" sound.

Now if I could just figure out why it will only play both channels while in "mono" mode . . . :scratch2:

(speak of the devil) Hey, Darren!

Not getting anything from one of the channels? Then mono sums it to play on both?
