HPM-60's VS HPM-100's

Some say at normal listening levels they sound better. I'm not one of those that says that, but yes, they are very close to the HPM 100s at lower listeneing levels.

I've seen many pairs go for $250 and up if they are nice and the auction is well-written with good pix, etc... That is cheaper than 100s, but not much.

HPM-100 sounds a touch "tubby" to me,... but in a good way. Big warm low-end. The HPM-60 sounds a little more even top to bottom and replace some of that phat bottom with more nimble and punchy bass. Personally, I prefer the 60's (at ANY listening level) but I'm probably in the minority.

I'd say that they sound 95% alike. If you like one, you'll like the other.

I have a pair of 60's and really like them. I do play them at reasonable listening levels. I don't have the 100's so can't make a comparison

WELL I have both and about all I can say since I don't speak Audio gobldygoop very well is the 100's have a deeper bass and more of it then the 60's the 60's sound better with a warm amp the 100's with a bright amp.

Both sound great with my SA-9100 and both sound good with my little Scott 233 tube amp but the 60's sound better with the Scott.

one thing to note is the physical size difference is very notable

the HPM-100's are 15.5" X 15.5" X 26.375 58lbs 14oz

The HPM-60's are 13.78 X 12.625 X 24" 38lbs 8 oz

I would really like to have a pair of HPM-100's, but its hard to find them for a good price in Germany. I have a pair of HPM-60's which I got more or less for free. The case is in bad condition, the plastic veneer peels off all over and they don't have the original woofers. The replacements are too soft, so the bass is much to strong and uncontrolled. So I pushed a pair of socks into the bass reflex opening and it works! At least until I find the original woofers somewhere. There was a pair for $30 on the bay, but with shipping to germany that would be nearly $70, that was too much for the beaten up cases.

My wife uses the 60's with her Sansui AU-6500. It's a great combination. The Sansui has the nice tube feel to it and just enuf power to drive the 60's.

Of course I use my 100's down in the basement

I use HPM 60`s - they are beautiful speakers and sound lovely. I think any of the speakers in the HPM series are gonna sound lovely - after all, they`re designed by the same team (man from JBL)!!! I wouldn`t part with them for anything - what could you buy today without spending megabucks that would be built with the same quality as these????
