interesting Panasonic SE-850

I recently brought home an interesting Panasonic SE-850. The BSR turntable has been removed and replaced with a piece of plexiglass...and it looks like the phono connections have been rerouted to the rear, with them mounted on another smaller piece of plexiglass and placed in the blank area between the other connectors. The top plexiglass is well cut and fits nicely and is held in place with two countersunk screws.

I've powered it up and all seems to be working, including the lights for the tuner dial needles...but I've not plugged speakers up to it yet.

There are openings in the case, gaps of about 1/4 inch along the top and bottom of the rear panel, between it and the case...you can just see part of it in the picture. There are also two small sets of slots in the bottom panel, below the circuit boards. Considering there are no large transistors with heatsinks, these may be enough to keep things from getting too warm.

I tried it using headphones, a pair of Pioneer SE-305's of about the same vintage, and it sounded quite good. Even with no external antenna attached it easily pulled in both AM and FM stations while in my basement.
