Silver haired devil meet Silver System.

I passed on a set of Accusounds for a dollar this weekend to appease the little lady and the Universe rewarded me with this for a paltry $120.00.

Just stacked it and powering up. I know it needs cleaning but I'm bouncing off the ceiliing....

I am surprised that you were able to successfully photograph that shiny, shiny stack! This will keep you busy for a while.

I will spend the best part of a month just opening up, dusting out and deoxiting all the fun little knobs and switches.

I guess I'll become best friends with my local electronics supplier hunting down capacitors.

I read somewhere here that deoxit is no good for slider pots. I've always just cleaned off the sliders with a QTip, any suggestions on cleaning those?

My Dremel polisher will get a workout on this gear. :D

As to the photography I am abysmal at it. I took about forty shots to get about three useful ones. I have to take this out to the patio and take some shots without a flash.

Apparently the timer allows one to perform scheduled recordings while out doing cool things like jumping on the trampoline with my grandsons. :thmbsp:

Cool, I just bought a 80 watts/channel alarm clock!

Fire it up last night on a pair of real cheapie Precision Acoustics (my don't care if I blow em up testers). My goodness those speakers sounded better than I have ever heard them.

I ran some simple musical listening tests - James Taylor, Guns & Roses, Yes, Vivaldi, Creed and of course some live Purple.

Writing this it strikes me I dont have any blues or jazz. Shame on me.:nono:

The sound was spacious, transparent and detailed. An incredible sound stage on the live version of Deep Purple - Child In Time. As clean sounding a system as I've ever owned. It doesn't come close to Retro's wall of Silver but I'm a happy puppy.

Hey Bruno, I noticed in your sig you have soome silver, whatcha runnin'?

Yup, this is going to be a treat. I cant wait to refoam my Advent Legacy II's, this is going to sound sweet!

Silver with blue fluoroscan is HH Scott 355R & 375R, Pioneer RT 901 and Pioneer SA-8800. Other stuff more traditional. I had a CTF 900, but didn't care for the sound, so it's down the road. I have a timer somewhere in storage, but don't remember what brand. I put it away 20 years ago.

The blue on silver look is a statement all by itself. One of the classiest looks ever in hi-fi. Never much cared for Yamaha digital green with silver, but the blue looks so cool :)

Caig Faderlube is what you want to use on those. Nice score BTW, outright theft I say :D

digital timer - think alarm clock. While in the military, we stayed up late every night drinking wayyyyyyy too much, had to be up at 6:50 to go run our 2 miles. To roll me out of bed, volume set high, tape deck set to "Time" by Pink Floyd...no matter the hangover, you would get out of bed to turn off those insane clocks.....

wow, great deal for $120.....great deal for over $500.00.
welcome to Silver - once u go silver...........
down side as u will soon find out and can see in the pics - no hiding fingerprints......
I have waxed mine with car wax to make it easier to clean it off....seems to help.

Thanks Donberry,

I've always been a monster receiver type but I just couldn't pass this up. Even the wife was impressed when she first saw it, and that is almost impossible to do with audio gear.

Hmm, never would have thought of car wax. I was just going to use stainless steel cleaner. Just have to get used to wiping it off every day, is all.

Once I get it all shiny new inside and out then I get to go walkabout on a speaker quest. Not sure what I want yet, as I said I have those Advents to refoam.

I love this hobby (obsession).

Great buy! I had to pay $300 for my stack of silver with blue floroscan. That'll keep you busy for some time.

Do anything with that dremel polisher on that Anodized aluminum and you will be VERY sorry. You can NOT polish Pioneer Silver faced gear not with a 1"D wheel on a motor.

To clean and brighten Silver Faced Pioneer gear first remove all Knobs. Put them in a bowl with hot water and common dish soap allow to soak over night.

For the face plated first use a good quality Orange clear spray it on to a terry dish rag and wash the face plate. After ward a rinse with tap water and a terry cloth ONLY DAMP NOT WET.

Then using a very mild polish like Meguires Mirror Glaze, Novus #2 plastic polish or maybe Brasso or Mrs Wrights Silver polish working with the grain you can brighten up the anodized layer. BE very careful use very little work in a small area at a time. Once it has been polished used a CLEAN terry or microfiber cloth to buff.

Anything agressive will **** the anodizing or the lettering or both.

I'm like a proud new papa. Here's some new picture of the system.

I'm going to pair it up with a the technics SL-5300 that I got at a Charity Yard Sale for $2.00. I can look for a high end Pioneer TT later.

zi judt picked up that stand today for $15.00 the lady said it was too large for her DaVinci Surround System.

Anytime Just looking out for the old Pioneers LOL

I'm so glad you set him straight on the Dremel, Mark. I lost track of this thread before I could respond. I've been worried ever since. Imagine what an ugly heap of darkening aluminum those shiny silver faces could have become. Saved for the sake of posterity now.

Nice looking stack, Challenger.
