Klipsch Revelation

Well there are those that think Bose are the **** and those that think Bose are **** lol.
Same thing, just moreso with Klipsch.

I have both 301's and heresys, plus some DQ-8's and some Wharfedales.
Any of them by themselves can be fine to meh.
All of them together, can be a symphony.

KG line is just so underrated, and it's funny how many Klipsch fans insist they're on the bottom of the Klipsch pecking order.

At the time they were built, they were. Now, they've built some since then that reached new lows, imo. And I don't mean deeper bass. After Paul Klipsch sold to a cousin, and the move of Operations to Indianapolis, the product line suffered somewhat, I thought. Frankly, I felt some of the products were fairly dismal and it was a rush to capitalize on the name... maybe I'm wrong.

Besides on here, most of the trash talking is from d'tube where most have neither set up properly and folks base their judgement on crappy computer speaker auditions. I have some newer bookshelf China Klipsches and they're very nice, though I prefer an old pair of ARs in that application ... more bass without a sub. Have yet to run across anything Bose but I'm eager to make my own judgement ... someday.

I passed up a pair of 5.2 at a charity garage sale a few years back, thought since I had 4.2 I didn't need them. Always wondered if I shoulda. And I was running the electronics dept. so I could have sold them to myself at an attractive price! But I put $200 on em and figured if no one bit, I would get em myself when half - price hour started at the end of the sale. Someone did buy them and I'm sure he's enjoying them to this day.

I picked my KG-4s up in an antique store (of all places) for a whooping total of $100. They had only slight scuffing here and there, the grills were perfect, but the badges were missing. I found a new pair of badges on the auction site, and this late summer I sanded all of the blemishes out of the cabinets and re-oiled them (Watco) and now the walnut looks really, really nice. The 12" passives are in great shape as well.

There is another pair of Klipsch speakers at the very same antique store, the KG-1.5s, but they are in oak, and the grills are not in the best shape, so I would have to work on that. The funny thing is that the owner wants $150 for these, which kind of doesn't make sense since he sold me the 4s for $100. ????

The bad news for me (good for the wife) is that after 23 pairs of speakers, I pretty much have no more room for such devices............

I generally like Klipsch. I have a pair of Epic CF-3s, Klipsch RB-5s, and some other Synergy and Reference towers and bookshelves.
I always grab them if they are cheap and rarely do I get rid of them. Must be me but I have never heard a bad sounding Klipsch speaker.

I wish some Legacy stuff would fall in front of me lol.

A long time ago, I spent a few months listening to a friend's new KG4's. The most memorable part is that they didn't have the "honk" so prevalent with most of the other horn speakers I've heard.
I did manage to set those KG4's on fire, though. Only took the first five seconds of Rush's "Tom Sawyer" at full volume before smoke filled the room. Klipsch very generously sent my friend a complete set of replacement guts for free. Now that's customer service!
