I had heard that Lady Gaga had completely blown everyone away with her performance of the Oscar winning music from The Sound of Music at the 2015 Oscars. I just watched it and I was slack jawed, I could not believe what I was hearing, and to see Lady Gaga looking like a beautiful women, and not a burlesque dancer was a surprise in it's self. She completely nailed the music. Julie Andrews herself could not have done it any better. And when Lady Gaga greeted Julie Andrews herself when she walked on the stage afterwards to present the Oscar for Best Music it brought the house down. Lady Gaga how about more of Stephanie Germanotta, and less of Lady Gaga and give us more performances like this.

This is the best stream I could find, not very good :(
Had to change the link there was a take down on the first one.

I'm turning over a new page in regards to GaGa. My daughter has always been a big fan of hers and we kid each other. I seriously thought of her as a no-talent waste of time but now I can't say that anymore.
Thanks. I don't usually watch the operas.

She was pretty good on the Stevie Wonder tribute also. I dismissed her until I saw her duet with Tony Bennet on public TV. She's a highly interactive, dynamic performer. Sometimes artists need to work their "stuff" out before they can really shine. I attribute her meat-suit period to that (and publicity).

You can tell she took this performance dead serious it is apparent she hired a voice coach to get the phrasing, diction, and pitch down perfectly. I just changed the Youtube link the one I had was taken down. I have the album she did with Tony Bennett and I was really surprised but this Sound of Music performance gobsmacked me. I hope there is a album, Please let there be an album. Lady Gaga just blew past Madonna big time.

She has always been a self promotion master, this is just another chapter.......the talented chapter. Her "Cheek to Cheek" effort with Tony Bennett was worth a listen if you haven't heard it too.

She's always been extremely talented. Check out her early videos from before coming up with the "Lady Gaga" persona.

I rarely admit it but I dig her. She don't give a F about what anyone thinks. I agree with the others that she has other videos out there that show she's talented. And I get the feeling she is heavily involved in her music (writing, composing...) not fact checking that though.

Looks like she's turned more than a few curmudgeon heads around here. Hehe. Good for her. Good for you.

I personally dig her Lady Gaga routine, but I also enjoy it when she goes more traditional. She has an amazing voice, no matter how she's using it.

Yup. Covering Julie Andrews will do that. I thought the performance was boring, but watching the 'curmudgeons' going all gaga IS entertaining.

I have always recognized she had more there. When I watched her live at the iTunes Festival 2013 I could see her talent and there where other things I picked up on. One of them was she let her band do their own thing while see was back stage doing a major costume change. What the band was playing was fantastic a orchestral metal thing and I was so hoping it would be on a future album but not that I can find out so far.

She knew the value of the visual hook, then legitimized herself artistically with the Bennett alliance.

No arguing, she's very talented as well as astute. Win win for Ms GG.

I do agree with that Taylor Swift part. Like the like from the movie "Office Space"... "No talent ass clown". Auto tune was invented for Cher and perfected for Swift (says my brother who works as a national promotions manager for Sony Nashville)

to be honest... I found the Ga Ga performance boring.... then again... I was never a Sound of Music fan.... - I fast forwarded through it.... ( i always record the whole show and then just watch what we want ) - I am a fan of hers though.... just not in that format.... and i think she is talented. Early in her days, I saw her play the panio and sing.... quite amazing... hate to say it... but I also think Taylor Swift is more talented then most.... as least she plays and writes much of her own music... (that's better then most of the other female hit makers out there) just my 2 cents. ec

Female singer/songwriters who are better than Lady Gag Gag in no particular order:
Neko Case
Lucinda Williams
Gillean Welch
Allison Moore
Bjork
Cat Power
Lana Del Rey
P.J.Harvey
Aimee Mann
Ricky Lee Jones
Tori Amos
Annie Lennox
Emmylou Harris
Beth Orton
Kate Bush
Patty Griffin

Anyone of the above is more talented than the Gag.

Well it would be pretty obnoxious if you actually put them in order.

As an aside, I would have loved to hear Gillian Welch in her acid dropping punk days.

:D

Here's some more:
Marissa Nadler
Narina Pallot
Jolie Holland
Sharon Van Etten
Laura Cantrell
St. Vincent
M.I.A.
Roseanne Cash

Of all these female artists who I truly admire, my personal favorite is Lucinda Williams, followed closely by P.J. Harvey. Sadly, there are no African Americans on my list. This, IMO, reflects on the sorry state of black music in the present times. It's all about Divas and little about talent.

I was just saying she is more talented then she lets on.... i don't own any of her stuff.... but I have seen her sing some songs (don't even know if they were her own) while playing the piano, and she does have talent. I am not into the whole stage production thing which is what the fans eat up. As for your list, I enjoy and own work by 3/4s of them. ec
