MC2205 parts list help needed

Hello from France.

I need to rebuild my old MC2205. I need some parts like face plate, knobs, upper and lower face plate corner, end caps...
Does anybody got an exploded view of the MC2205 to know the parts number to order.

So, the parts i'm looking are:

_ 3x Knobs (part #090-156)
_ Faceplate (part #016-162)
_ 2x end caps (part #018-173)

Unknow parts number:

_ Top extrusion
_ Lower extrusion (are theses parts specifics for each Mc model or is there compatibility with other one ?)
 
Terry can definitely supply the faceplate, as can the factory and Audio Classics. The wait can be several months if the factory is out, as they are busy making faceplates for current products and only run vintage periodically. Also, the fellow that Terry works with (McIntosh Sales?) has many faceplates in stock. He has them listed on his website, so google him or link through Terry's website and see what he has. No wait if he does. You might also ask McIntosh Sales and Audio Classics about the other parts. You never know what they may have. Terry has mentioned a company that does reproduction end caps. Problem with finding old parts is that vintage McIntosh rarely get trashed. Folks simply refurbish them (like you) for another 30+ years of enjoyment.

If you haven't been surfing this forum for info on the MC2205, then you will want to do so. Member 'Gregory' has posted a good deal of good info on rebuilding his, including excellent photos.

Thinking about the OP, many of the 2205's dropped by shipping carriers have damage to the front panel. It may be a challenge finding these items.

The left end cap on my 2205 has a slight horizontal scratch on the front surface (from the previous owner that is) and I'm thinking that could be polished out? They are aluminum yes? What about a polishing wheel and some aluminum compound?

Yes, the end caps can be polished. I've done mine with good results. The top and bottom black edges that the endcaps screw in to are the same for almost any similar Mac, just cut to lenght. I'm 99.9% sure, the 2105 and 2205 blck edges are the same. I'm totally surprised Mac doesn't have them still.

And then some. The factory is currently back ordered on the 2205 glass and has been so for a while.

I'm not sure about the other approach (through McIntosh Sales).

I'm still thinking twice about a new glass panel. Someday after I keel over, then someone can replace it. :scratch2:

None of the minor defects are noticeable unless you get right down in the face of it!! The fading of the meter color is MUCH more obvious. They aren't blue, but dull with varying olive drab colored splotches scattered around the edges and across the top. The left is somewhat dimmer than the right with a bit more fading. What does that sound like to you? Gels? White plexi? Bulbs?

Blue led replacements for the 1866 bulbs are available for $4.50 each, which negate the need for the gel filter. I don't know how well the blue matches though. I may order a few to find out. I waited almost a year for MR-78 glass to be available from the factory, and I also contacted Terry and AC, and they all had it on order with the factory as well. I was told when I called there that they only have one machine that cuts the glass, and they do the vintage ones when they have enough orders, and time available on the machine. They only make a few extras with each batch to keep inventory low. If you even THINK you might want glass, then order it, it helps everyone waiting for one, and you can always cancel when they email (or call you, which they did me!) to let you know it is available. I got lucky when I ordered glass for my 2105 and after I was told it was backordered, they actually made them THAT week, and had it 7 days later! I have only one tiny bubble on on the upper left corner on my 2205, easily fixed, but the main thing is the faded "EO PO" lettering on mine. I think the new glass is very reasonable for Mac, under $150.
 
Those end caps can be turned inside out and reversed. The screw holes are counter-sunk on both sides..therefore you can expose new outside surfaces if you want.

There are many extrusion black edges available on audioclassics but i don't know which one will fit on my 2205. It seems to be impossible to get an helpful exploded view of the mechanical assembly of the 2205 (no answer from Mcintosh, audioclassics and tery)

For what it's worth, you can get some top and bottom frame rails and some end caps from Mac factory parts, but they are the type used with newer models, so they will change the external appearance, which may or may not be OK depending on what you want. The top/bottom rails are brushed anodized black rather than the smooth glossy older rails, and the end caps are those massive beveled types used in current production. They do fit, however you will likely need some longer screws to fasten the end caps and the t/b rails may need to have holes drilled to accomodate fasteners on the bottom.

The prices of the rails are pretty reasonable, but those thick new end caps are wicked expensive, so be prepared with deep pockets if you decide to order some.

It's my understanding that end panels from Mac are more than twice the price than those from the guy in Portland, OR.

I was just curious about comparing the way those end caps look with the new ones.
 
They have pretty much DOUBLED the price on many parts in the last two-three months. I guess at least they have them, BUT it is getting to be more and more to fix the earlier stuff.

I ordered end caps for my MX110 from the guy in Portland Oregon and they are beautiful pieces - I am going to put them on all my stuff. They are very well made and it does make a huge difference.

I bought two pairs; one for a C34V and the second for an MX-130. They are about as close to real as it gets.
