Slappa da bass!
hey guys....its been a while since i've been on here....but i got a quick question...there are a set of MG-1's on ebay that are actually in my town (Yay for local pickup!), and i actually have talked the wifey into letting me buy them for the opening bid. So im wondering are teh MG-1's worth $250?? after some initial snooping, i'm seeing conflicting info, so any help you guys could offer would be great!!

Thanks!
Scott

Well i feel these are a little on the high side price wise and are sold through a Ebay retailer which i have never really liked. They would need to be in 100% working condition for that price. They do look well cared for and in nice shape. I would think you could do better looking through craigslist.

The question I would have about that "small hole" is if its only in the fabric or does it go through the membrane as well?

ah, righto....dollars and sense. My bad!

Yeah, Monster Deals is a local pawn shop, so they do a lot of volume, so i bet they probably arne't the most attentive seller on there.

So if i were to go in and listen to them and they were working fine, then it would maybe be worth it, or should i just keep looking? do you guys know what the differences are between this model and the newer ones?

thanks for the help, as always!

check out other maggie threads which have links to the MUG and then look it over as it has a complete list of Magnepan speakers and the differences. Basically they are now using ribbon or quasi-ribbon tweeters and not the wire tweeter in the MG-I. The MG-I is an older design that has limited frequency extremes as shown on the mug site. So if you have to have a pair, these, if they work will be fine. If money is an object then these, if they work, will be fine. But I held out for a pair with true ribbon tweeters, a 3-way speaker for less than twice that price and I'm happy.
