opinions on LG B8P TVs

Does anyone here have one? They are at a crazy good price right now. I had been holding out for a Sony OLED but the recent drop on the OLED55B8PUA may be too good to pass up.

I've seen complaints about OLEDs in general having a 'banding' issue where on darker images there are vertical bands where it is darker or lighter. Has anyone experienced that issue?

I have the C8 65in had the C7 55in prior and before that had a Pioneer Elite pro151fd 60in . I have gone through numerous 4K TVs since they came out and none could touch my pioneer elite until the LG Oled , my Oled has blacks the are more inky than my pioneer did which is very hard to believe and since he blacks are so black the contrast is insane while colors are lifelike pictures look like they’re coming off the screen .

All oleds can have banding depending on the movie your watching and whether your streaming 4K or watching a native 4K disc, I have not had any banding issues with my Oled , I believe the professional ISF calibration is a helping factor here .

Burn in issues that all the naysayers talk about can only happen if you have ticker tape tv on for 24hrs at a time and or your a heavy heavy gamer that does more than 12hrs a day, if your none of those and want the best picture possible on anybody then the Oled is the way to go. Also if you didn’t know all Oled panels are LG so the difference between the different manufacturers will be in the processing and user interface. Also I highly recommend ISF calibration for the best performance you can get from your Oled . Good luck and if you have anymore questions feel free to ask . watch this video from Rtings for reference

Still a fan of Samsung here ... most natural picture I've seen (with a few tweaks on the settings courtesy of AVForum.

So what's the refresh rate on those things? IMHO that can either make or break your viewing. Faster the rate, the less artifacts and motion trails you have to deal with. That was one of the big selling points on the Samsung, which tops out at 240hz ...

PS - still regular old HD here ... good enough for me, especially with a smaller screen.

I have had three dealers of OLED tv tell me that they have issues with OLED, TV's from LG. Only one was a Sony dealer, too. All three of the dealers I have known for a long time and there fore I value their opinion. The reason I bought my 151 Pioneer was the processing was better than the Panasonics of the time. I will probably buy a Sony OLED for the same reason this time, when my Pioneer dies. I have back-ed off on using it the last two years. I agree screen calibration is veery necessary to get a true satisfactory faithful presentation. Sort of like voicing your speakers.

All tv manufacturers have issues , with Oled TVs it depends on if you get a good or bad panel . LG makes all Oled panels so it all depends on what user interface you like . If I went by what a dealer told me most of the time then I would never have a mind of my own to try a product myself to make a decision.
