Way high in the cosmetic condition that it's in, IMHO. I bought a local SX-780 that looks straight-out-of-the-box new for less then that. You can do better for that amount of coin.

Ebay completed listings show one sold listed as in NM condition for a BUY IT NOW price of $59.00 - that was the most expensive recent sale. Others sold for less. One went for $.99 but it was a repair unit.

Here's a rule of thumb I follow [ take it or leave it, it's just what I am willing to consider when buying gear ] $1 per watt for okay condition / $2 [ or more ] per watt for above average to near mint condition gear.

I'd pass on that one, but that's just my opinion.

Definitely too much! Max has the right idea. I'd pay, maybe $15-20, but unless you're desperate, I'd hold out. I haven't heard the 580, and I'd bet it sounds very decent, but for $75 you could find something far nicer. Hell, I just got an SX-1050 for $125, and my SX-828 set me back only $20.

Happy hunting!

it all boils down to whether its worth that much to you, if you like it, it's a decent price i think. I have seen 580's go for alot more than that. The question is, are you going to keep it for the long run? If so, it is defintely worth it, since these are vintage items, the market of buyers out there really dictates how much it will go for.

$75 is pretty high for it's condition. I paid $2 more for my SX-1010 and $4 more for my Kenwood KR-9400 plus additional parts to the total of $100 (including the cost of receiver). SX-780 plus parts totalling approx $50. List can go on but I think the point is taken. :D

but ask the owner if it has ever been problematic or in the shop for repairs, then use your best judgement.

it's kind of a rough deal finding anything in my area...southeast Idaho. this one is 300 miles away, but I have relatives that could grab it. i was thinking around 25 bucks, since my Marantz 2235B ran me 52. this SX is the first vintage receiver i've seen anywhere in my area... aside from that Zenith all in one unit at the thrift:boring:

Seller is never going to get $75 for it, that is just way too high. That asking price will be coming down when he gets no response.

...and I really like the VU meters on the 580, my Marantz doesn't have those:no:

Can't blame you for that. I like my SX-780 VU meters too. However if you notice in post #5, I listed how much I paid for my SX-780 for less than that and cosmetically is currently alot better than what shows in the pic.
