Pre amp / amp - Yamaha vs. Rotel?

Hey all,
Been awhile since I posted, but I'd like your opinions please:

I'm currently using a Yamaha CX-2 pre and MX-2 amp, and I have an opportunity to pick up a Rotel RB-990BX amp and a RC995 pre for a good price.

I've got a pair of vintage B&W DM2000 speakers that I'm driving.

I love the Yamaha set up, but the line on Rotel is that they compliment the B&W's really well.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Regards,
Scott

I can't give you a direct comparison on those particular models, but I've always felt my Yamaha M-4 amps are warmer and fuller sounding than a pair of RB-980BX I also enjoy. The Rotel's are clinical to a fault, dry and sharp. If that compliments B&W, you may like them. Featherweights compared to the Yami if that amounts to anything.

I've got zero first hand experience with Rotel, and only know what I've read - I have heard they can be tough on bad recordings - revealing flaws.

Good info - thanks for the help.

I don't have any personal experience, but I haven't heard anything but accolades about those two Yamaha pieces.

I own B&W and Rotel .Rotel has been described as analytical .I have owned many speakers and amps from Pioneer,Sony,Yammy,Acoustic Research,Polk,Marantz and more.My current setup is Rotel pre and amp for stereo and Sony pre and Rotel amp for HT.All my current speakers are B&W.When I first got the B&W speakers I tried all Rotel and then Yamaha then pioneer and the sony.I sold all but the Sony as it did the best for HT but could not get these B&W's to sound good for music.I tried a Musical Fidelity Integrated but that did not do it either.I ended up going back to Rotel's as I found the right combo that totally brought the B&W's to life for music. So really it all depends on what you like and what you are using to drive them. One piece from a manufacturer does not mean that a differnt piece will not integrate nicely. At one point I said to myself that it had been a mistake buying Rotel and B&W and should of went a different path...but it all worked out and I am extremely satisfied now.Hope this helps.

I think that's wise. A sideways move unless you were going to bridge the Rotel and run a second.

Good choice as there is no wrong choice. It is whatever sounds good to you and what you are happy with.Enjoy.:music:
