rca replacement on a Marantz 6200

Hi fellow AKers,:music:
I was disconnecting my gear to move things around a little bit and I pulled the RCA jack off the wire of my 6200 Marantz:sigh:. I was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction to either replace the ends or upgrade the wiring. I have done a little searching and realized I do not have a clue to what I'm exactly looking for.:smoke: I guess what i have been looking for is RCA cable with a ground attached to keep it somewhat stock looking. I have heard some use a monster cable ect. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. James

Any phono cables with a ground wire attached will cost a fortune, because they'll be very high end. You'll just have to use a new set of cables and a separate ground wire and if you want it neat, tape it to the cables.

I did a thread here comparing several budget cables that were suitable for phono use. Video component cables (set of red, green, blue) tend to work well because they are well shielded and low in capacitance, both advantageous for phono use with magnetic cartridges. Modern audio cables, like Monsters, are made for line level connections (like CD) which are not sensitive to shielding or capacitance so you can't be sure of their specs in those areas. Search for budget RCA interconnects here in the turntable section.

Took me awhile to find the link again, but this is the cable that I used a few times. I cut off the angled ends so I could solder the wires in place on my turntables. If your RCA connector is just damaged, but the cable is ok, you could use a new RCA connector on your existing cable. Radio Shack has them. The cable in the link below has the ground lug, seemed to be good quality and worked well for me.

You take a chance on the capacitance with these. If you use them, keep them as short as possible.

Well the link shows there currently unavailable.
Why not try this get one of the sets of cables Howard did in his cable test and just use a long piece of heat shrink tubing to incase the ground wire as well as the cable, should look pretty nice.

Showed that it was available this morning.:scratch2: Anyway, here is another link to the same cable. Much cheaper too. Don't know about the capacitance or anything, but the description says that it's designed for turntables and worked very well for me. Much better than OEM cables IMHO.

Thanks for the help guys, Looks like the easiest way to fix my TT is go to radio shack for the rca ends, I hope the lil 16 yr ol girl knows what i'm talking about. This gave me a good reason to pull out my ol Pl-530. Anybody know what gauge of cable this is? or does it matter? Thanks James

if you are just replacing ends, gauge shouldnt matter, its pretty much solder what youve got to the new end, Id rethink about replacement of the whole thing though, Id shoot for av cables. If they are soldered into the deck, then youd have to flip it upside down and pull the bottom off to access where they are soldered, sounds like a big deal, but its more like an hour or so. If you arent comforatable soldering, thats a whole other thing. But replacement of just the ends may be issuish that way too.

That's probably what I would do. Gauge won't be an issue. They are small wires. Trickiest part is to make your connections narrow enough so that they don't short out when you put the cover on the plug. The center wire goes on the center conductor.

The two times that I replaced the entire cable, each had intermittents in the cables themselves.
