Recommendations for sax music

The Dundee Horns, part of the Average White Band. Malcolm "Molly" Duncan and Roger Ball are both excellent sax players in this band. If you want to hear a live recording with extended sax solos, try the "Person to Person" album.

Lee.

Haven't seen his name yet, Earl Bostic. This guy could play one mean alto. Just checked Amazon and they have a lot of his albums.

I like Richard Elliot, although he's now in the "smooth jazz" genre. He used to play in Tower of Power in the 80's. I was lucky to hear him live before I heard him on CD ... hearing him live is a whole different experience. Hefty pipes and finesse too! For me, sax heaven is hearing him play "Somewhere over the Rainbow" or "When a Man Loves a Woman" live. I haven't actually heard very many of his CD's yet, but I like his "On The Town" CD.

Although I've never been into "classic" jazz, I think I may give a listen to some of the artists mentioned above. Hard to beat some good sax!

I'm a big fan of Gerry Mulligan and Stan Getz.

Or to go in a completely different direction, try some Maceo Parker. That guy is just plain fun.

Many great recommendations here. Let me add Ike Quebec. Very similar in style to Ben Webster.
