Sansui 7000

Thanks for info. Well, I powered on again this morning after a night of setting. I did a super job last night with the spray cleaner. It has improved some with cleaner but still does not make consistent contact. I believe it may be something else. What do you guys think? Here is two crazy things I noticed last night. Number one: All knobs turn nicely without noise. However, the balance knob and the volume knob seem to make a contact noise when spinning back and forth. Number two: There seems to be excessive magnetized. Every time I remove a screw it will literally lift out of the hole a stick to the screw driver. I set a screw into it proper hole and move the screw driver near it and it will lift out of hole. Is this normal. I remember some magnetization but not this excessive. This "BAD BOY" from what I have been told is close to be shelved.

If it is static sound you can hear through the speakers then it may need more cleaning. BTW What kind of cleaner are you using?

Are you sure it's the screws and not the screw driver? Try sticking the tip of your screw driver to something metal like a tool box and see if you have a magnetic screw driver. Then try sticking the screws to the side of the metal tool box and you will confirm which is magnetic.
 
I did check the screw driver and it seems to be hold magnetic so it may be the screw driver. I never noticed it before when using to open newer electronic cabinets. The cleaner is a Radio Shack cleaner and lubricant. Is this OK or should I be using something else to get volume Pots cleaned. I noticed that when I power off that I get kinda a crackle pop through the speakers. Thanks for helping!

I would characterize the sound of mine as kind of sounding dull with tubby / flabby bass and tiny treble

Have never heard this receiver given this type of a review before. But I guess as with other things in life, there are exceptions to the rule. The two that I've had the pleasure of owning were warm and well balanced. I just wish that the 7000 had the triple tone controls. While I do listen to the majority of of my selected music sources w/flat settings, there are times I prefer to adjust the midrange a tiny bit.
 
I picked up a 7000 at 'the worlds longest yard sale' last year ($3). Got it refurbished and used it until I got my G-8000. That 7000 has got some great punch. I gave it to a friend of mine to power his AR4ax's.
 
59 Volvo, sounds like yours needs some new caps. Joeskey, deoxit works far better than that stuff. If think you may be doing any more of this kind of thing in the future, definitely get yourself a big bottle of D5 and some faderlube too.
