Silverware Wood Case For DIY Tube Amp

Anyone used one of these for a diy tube amp build. there are a couple of examples out on the net. I would think heat and earth grounding might be an issue? I could see adding feet if there were none and drilling holes in the bottom for heat dissipation.

Another issue could be the thickness of the top for adding tube sockets and such.

I ask as I have a couple of these in the garage and have a couple of tube amp projects coming up. Here is one on the Instructables website.

Seen tube preamps built into humidor type boxes. Guts on the inside, top covers everything. Sounds like you want to mount the parts on top or remove the top and have the unit in the box. Should be fun to do a project like this. Here is a proto-type Response Audio Purity preamp that a friend had that was built into a box with a hinged lid. Made for making changes easier. Tube socket empty, photos taken while I was swapping the stock coupling caps to Clarity MR.

Well then you have something like a bottlehead:

FPs top.jpg

One has huge coupling caps bypassed and these are mounted pontoon style on the left preamp and FPI the one on the right is and FPII

Coupling caps on the output of the unit. The Ampohm caps 2.0µF Paper in Oil/Tin Foil and smaller 1.0µF Polypropylene were the coupling caps in the Response Audio preamp shown above before I replaced them with the blue Clarity caps. They are different materials.
