Hello all,

I was just wondering how to polish knobs and dials on a old SX-1050..

Do you use a wheel or rag to spruce them up.

If a rag is used is there a special compound to rub on.? :scratch2:

I remove them and soak them in hot water / dish soap for a while. Then take them out and wipe them off with a damp rag. On stubborn stuff. I use Nevr-Dull. I just did my silver faced Pioneer EQ, which would come clean with nothing. Nevr-Dull did the job and did it well.

Boy, if you were to mention the subject of this thread in a noisy bar with mixed company, you'd probably get slapped... or lucky, just saying.

One nice trick on metal knobs is throw them in a small ultrasonic cleaner, as used for jewelry etc. Add water and a few drops of dish soap and run them for a bit, then rinse clean & wipe dry. Those little cleaners are CHEAP on eBay or Amazon, and can be used for other things besides knobs.

Ha ha..

That remindes me I have a case tumbler for brass Hummm.

I picked up a nice ultrasonic cleaner at Harbor Freight Tools for about $60.00, works great for cleaning knobs. I add a little Simple Green to the water.

Not much to add. Warm water with a bit of dish soap added, soaking ovenight. Careful not to allow the knobs to bang one another. Then afterward use Blue Magic metal polish cream. I've also used Brasso.

No Noxon lovers in this thread? I did my SX-850, SG-9500, and RT-707 with it. Silky smooth and shiny! :thmbsp:

I use Windex, let it soak in for a bit and scrub, cloth, tooth brush. Maybe the aluminum polish that i use for my motorcycle, for subborn stains. Autosol.

I figure most of the gunk on knobs is oils from the skin that collect dirt. Therefore I use a grease cutter: Simple Green soak, rub with soft rag and soft toothbrush (for stubborn spots), rinse, Turtle Wax ICE liquid polish. Makes them shine.

Figures the thread title would drag out all the knob polishers ... <G>

Another vote for Never Dull ... great stuff and leaves a nice shine.

Knobs and levers with greasy fingerprints and hand grime are no match for regular flavor Colgate toothpaste and a soft bristle toothbrush. I just did a set off a SX-750 and they look great.

Mineral Spirits or sometimes lacquer thinner. Be careful with the lacquer thinner because sometimes it will remove more then you asked for. Always use we'll ventilated.

I use hot water and Dawn diswashing detergent, I leave it in a plastic chinese soup container for 2 days, change water once daily. Then after two days I use an electric toothbrush and soft soft scrub and they come out like new..
