Technics SL-QD35

Hey everybody. I just got some vintage gear and I'm in the process of getting everything up to speed, yet I've hit a problem. I've got a Technics SL-QD35 with phono output running through a phono preamp to a speaker system yet the sound level is still too low even with the preamp turned all the way up. The turntable is grounded to the preamp and there is no humming noise to be heard of - not sure if the cartridge might be the problem or not. I'm pretty much brand new to the turntable world, any help would be greatly appreciated!!

{Heres the system:}

general, there must be an amplifier between the preamp and the speakers. the pre- only boosts the phono signal a tiny bit, the rest is done by an amplifier.

Unless the speakers are powered (have a built-in amplifier), the RIAA phono pre-amp will not be enough. The phono pre-amp will do the RIAA adjustment but will only raise the level of the signal to what you would get from any other component (tuner, tape, CD-player). Just like with any of those, you need an amplifier to get any sort of volume.

The logitech x-530 is an amplified computer speaker system.

Make sure you're plugged into the 'front' inputs for the speakers.

Your preamp probably puts out about 150mv. Your speakers may be expecting more like 1v input.

I'm plugged up to the speakers via an adaptor the connects three analog miniplugs from the speakers to an rca cable to the preamp.

Here is the power layout on the speaker system. Do you think the system just doesn't have enough juice? Thanks for the advice everybody!!

Total FTC power: 70 watts RMS
Satellites:
Left/right: 7.4 watts RMS x 2 (into 4 ohms, @ 1 kHz, @ 10% THD)
Center: 15.5 watts RMS (into 4 ohms, @ 1 kHz, @ 10% THD)
Rear left/right: 7.4 watts RMS x 2 (into 4 ohms, @ 1 kHz, @ 10% THD)
Subwoofer: 25 watts RMS (into 4 ohms, @ 100 Hz, @ 10% THD)

Total peak power: 140 watts

I'm not familiar with that adapter. Does it require some sort of power supply? I'm not understanding how the signal is being split off. I see the L/R RCA plugs coming from your preamp. That should give you a line level signal. Where do the other plugs terminate?

It's a surround sound speaker system for PC's. That's just the supplied adapter that comes with the speaker system to split a stereo signal into the surround sound connections.

General, have you used something like a CD player with those speakers and adapter? Do you know anyone with a stereo receiver that you can connect your turntable up to for testing? Basically, you're gonna have to go through a process of elimination by testing components individually.

So far the speakers work just fine with my gaming console, tv, and ipod. I'll have to test the turntable with a friend's stereo receiver. Thanks for the advice!!
