But I bought myself a USA made, solid wood, high end Acoustic guitar!

Introducing my new 2020 Guild USA D-40 Traditional. I received it on 10/25, added a tortoise shell strap button, put some Nickel Bronze strings (12-56 light top / medium bottom), and picked up a good capo.

How does it stack up against Martin D-18? I love Guilds, and am a huge fan of Mahogany acoustics! I wish I could find a Guild with an Adirondack instead of Sitka top.

@Heavygroove, look for a late Tacoma-built or any Traditional New Hartford build to get red spruce. It may not be as pretty as Sitka, but its red spruce/aka Adirondack.

@James Hart and @TheGoldenBoy, you should chime in at LetsTalkGuild.com. Nice bunch of people and I am sure they would like to hear from you.

That SB D-40 is sweet, and I know that they look better in person than they photograph. Hope you and she have many happy years together ;)

(Not dissing your images, its just in person they are so much more betterer :))

Thanks! I just like the tone I hear on most Adirondack/Mahogany guitars over Sitka. The Blueridge Br-140A has caught my eye lately too. I'd still play the frets off that D-40 though.

Congratulations, it’s a Beautiful instrument! Guild makes quality guitars. I think they are better then Martins of today unless you use the Martin custom shop. I’ve got a 1971 D25 that I bought new that year with the Guild Hard Shell case for $225.00. That was a lot of money for me as a college student. Still play it and it’s held up nicely. I added an LR Baggs bridge pickup.

Mine's a Starfire II Bass!

I've played a few Guild basses over the years, but never held one of those. It is beautiful

I prefer it, I think the combo of Sitka with Adirondack braces works great (so far... still needs more breaking in)

Thanks, I will check them out... I did sign up at https://www.acousticguitarforum.com/ I'll check out that site later.

Pictures don't do it justice... but sometimes in the right sunlight, pictures are close.

Red Spruce is a magical sort of tonewood these days... they say that is what the inside of mine is configured with. I cannot get enough of playing it... I think I've only picked up a bass once since it got here.

I shopped Dreadnoughts in the $3k and under and this is where my money fell... I would have loved to pick up a Preston Thompson Dreadnought, but this is enough ;)

I am currently exploring picks, I love the teardrop shaped, purple "Big Stubby" when playing bass, but generally just keep Fender Heavy rounded triangle picks on hand. I bought my preferred shape in my preferred bass pickup (hadn't realized that they made them in this shape), then bought some of the 1 mm size Tortex, and a 1.5mm Primetone. Ordered an engraved Blue Chip TAD 60 earlier today.

Never owned a Guild but have always admired them. Really nice guitars IMO.

I have played several but never owned a Guild acoustic. I recall liking the feel. I had several Guild electric "jazz bozes" and a few (3) Nightbirds --- the so-called "Guild Les Paul" -- as well. I wasn't crazy about the feel/sound of any of the Nightbirds, but the hollow-bodied electrics felt good, sounded good, looked cool and wish I'd kept @ least one of them, but alas away they went, probably in trade for (or toward) something in the Fender or Gibson range, but maybe not; I also collected (and also sold/traded away) quite a few Gretsch, Rics, and (later) Paul Reed Smith geetars back then. BAck to the Guild jazz boxes: I recall having a couple w/ the model name X-175 -- both SB -- and a couple "blond" numbers w/ model name X-500. Do those model names seem about right to y'all Guild heads? I could check @ my Gruhn Guide but I'm gonna wing it this morning.

@Mystic, the electrics are not my strong suit, but those models seem right for the jazz boxes...

@James Hart, all the New Hartford-built guitars used red spruce/adirondack for bracing, I am not sure on the newer ones but very likely is.

Nice number. Thanks for posting it.

Always glad to turn someone's ear! Molly Tuttle (amazing in her own right) mentioned Dave Rawlings as one of her influences and his use of dissonance mind blowing genius. Then proceeded to play a snippet of his work from this tune.
I instantly bought a handful of releases from the Dave and Gillian.

The Oxnard Ca shop is putting out Sitka tops with Adirondack bracings.

I only have 6 Guilds here...

-X170T, Jazz guitar, blonde
-Mark 1, classical,
-JF30, maple jumbo, loud as a cannon
-JF55-12, rosewood jumbo 12-string, loud as 2 cannons
-F5CE, thin cutaway acoustic-electric in rosewood, plays and sounds great.
-Songbird ( acoustic-electric the size of a Bluesbird.....Barry Gibb plays a blue one).

I also have 2 partial Guilds....Mark 4 classical that needs a new neck, and F30 R concert-size flattop in rosewood that needs a new back. I have all the parts to finish them, just can't seem to find the time :)
