Unusual first names

Clyde Preston Selsor

Ahhh Clyde!

Glad to see you posting & I pray you are doing well! :thmbsp:

I am surprised that Donald, my first name, has not been posted yet. It is not an unusual first name, nor is my middle one, but the last is.

Donald Jerome Roy

Once there was a salesguy who called on me a time or 2-I'll NEVER forget-His name was "Quezon Riddick". And he was just a regular lookin' guy, sure as hell didn't LOOK like no Quezon Riddick...THAT kinda sounds like it might have been Ming of Mongo's REAL name...Or Darth Vader's, maybe...(grin)

I don't have issue with my first or last name but I do with my middle name. Who the hell names an asian guy 'Walter'?

LOL, that does sound a little unusual. ;) But that's why they call the U.S. of A. a melting pot. Lots of different cultures mingling & giving each other new bad habits. :D

My first name is Darcy. It was impossible to find personalized key chains or other popular trinkets when I was young. My last name begins with "M", so I am often called Marcy by mistake. I am also called Dorsey, Dorothy, etc.

I don't mind Marcy, but the other mistakes are kinda annoying, but I am pretty used to it now.

William Lear named one of his daughters Shanda. :-)

Connection to audio; aside from the Lear Jet, he also invented the 8-track tape and early in his career he built radios and a bit later audio amps and speaker boxes for Magnavox.

No more unusual than you, my name is also Ross. I can think of 3 others off the top of my head, one was a good friend of mine in high school. I was named after the main character in the BBC Poldark series. My last name is Wendell which is common as a first name but not so common as a last name.

My fiancee's first name is Malima which is super unusual.

I've got a fairly standard first name. Richard.

My wife's grandfathers first name was fairly odd. Graves.

I have a copy of my birth certificate, with the name "Larry" typed in, then lined out, and "Lawrence" typed above it. The delivering doctor made my mother change it. He said "Lawrence" would sound more professional if I ever became president of the United States. Maybe next election.:D

My last name is a whole different story. It's Danish, but it's also a simple, common ol' every day three letter word in the English language. I did a search for it on AK and got in excess of 166,000 hits.

But whenever someone has to read it, they stumble f%@k around trying to turn it into something other than what it is.:scratch2:

Do you have a uncommon or unusual first name? Mine is Ross and while not that unusual I have only met maybe six guys named Ross. Oddly enough one of my best friends and a co-worker in Denver was a Ross. Actually my middle name Clark is not all that common either. Got an interesting moniker?

Ross Martin, RIP, comes to mind.

Yes, Preston, I have only met one other and seen others a few times.

Preston Gomez was an NL Manager. Othere:

Mine is old-fashioned (Charles), but that's not as bad as what my Grandma wanted me to be named; Percival :-o .

Charles

Percival Lowell would have been good to be named after.

Mine is Hurley, fairly unusual as a first name. Been used in my fathers side of the family for generations. Only other person that I've met with the same first name was Hurley Haywood, a pretty good Porsche pilot. My middle name is Rene' ( after a WWII army buddy of my fathers )

Haywood is one of the best and has a tremendous Porsche race winning record.

As for me, my first name is Bartley, typically shortened to Bart. Crazy thing is, when I googled my name, there IS another Bart Yee, living on the East Coast. Can you imagine? Otherwise, Bartley seems like a good and proper last name, but haven't met anyone with a first name of Bartley, though I'm sure somewhere there is one.

As my father told it, I was supposedly named after someone in the Truman administration named Barkley, but somehow the spelling was changed. Oddly though, my dad couldn't pronounce it well so sometimes I was called Barkley.

I was named Ross after the minister who married my parents. That fact undoubtable has many deceased Methodist clergy rolling in their graves.
Clark is my mothers maiden name. Her family is desended from William Clark Lewis's buddy.

I fairly WORSHIPPED a guy named Ross growing up...He's 4 yrs older than I am, so he was a Big-Shot 8th Grader when I was in the 4th grade...To have an 8th grader speak to you when you're in the 4th grade, & NOT kick or snarl at you, well, he was a GOD, of sorts...Plus, he was REAL tall & played basketball...I was short & fat, w/glasses, & HOPELESS at sports..He's STILL a Good Guy..He's a Dentist in Winchester, Virginia...

Here ya go. I don't know how scientific it is - looks like it's based on data - but it gives you stats on names.

Mine is Buck by the way, according to the site its the #1205 most common male first name (out of 1,129) and 0.004% of males in the US are named Buck.

I grew up knowing a Talmadge .. that one's not even in their list. Neither is Hurley so on this occasion I don't feel that unusual at all :)

My first name is Thain, which is not only unusual, its not the common spelling either. Normally its spelled Thane. I usually introduce myself by stating "and no I do not have a speech impediment" since most people seem to think I'm mispronouncing Shane.

True story. I had a co-worker who took a week off to attend his sisters wedding in another state but he was decidedly against the marriage. "Why the .... is she marrying a guy who's last name's 'Bates' ?"

The co-worker's last name was 'Masters'.:no::no:

G'day all, well my name is Felix actually named after my grandfather whose name was 'Felice' (a common Maltese Christian name). It's a curious name but probably fits me perfectly . :D

Being of Maltese decent it's traditional to give plenty of Christian names, so I'm 'Felix Andy Paul', but why 'Felix' at the start? :scratch2: Regards, Felix aka catman.

I don't have issue with my first or last name but I do with my middle name. Who the hell names an asian guy 'Walter'?

I've actually met a few asian guys named Walter. One of them said his parents got the name from Walter Cronkite.

My Dad's first name is Emory, used to be common here in the South.
Back when I worked at the Shack, another store had a mgr. named Airon. Her mom, after giving birth at the hospital, exclaimed "can somebody turn the air on?" True story, I asked her about it.
