I've been liking Frostop lately. How about you? I haven't had a Root beer float in ages, but that will change!!!

The A&W in Yale Michigan was the only thing close to a fast food place when we would visit my grandparents. A rare treat to go there and get the root beer served in a frosted mug.

Out of the can there used to be a brand called Dad’s that was pretty good.

There was a brewery near me, Dominion, that made their own root beer. It was really good, though pricey like craft brew. Root beer floats are a special treat!
Every once in a while I run into a place that sells Birch Beer. It has a flavor similar to root beer, also very tasty.

Birchbeer, clear, Canada Dry, 1970's, qt glass bottle for .50 cents at a local country mom & pop general store. Haven't seen it since.

I'm just a few miles away from there!

Wow!
My memory is not what it used to be but I think we have talked before. I think you might have shared some pics with me or my brother (BStable) of the “Hog Festival” in Melvin.

Definitely a small world if I am talking to someone who knows about Yale. Both my parents graduated from Yale High School and still go back for the reunions.

I have not been back to that area since my grandparents passed away in like 2002/2003. Is the A&W still there?

A&W is still there!
McD's is across the street now also

I don't drink soda, but I do like good root beer. As a small aside, I was just reading about how most countries other than the US think root beer is gross, and associate it with mouthwash. It seems that there is a chemical, methyl salicylate, that is present in root beer and also in most European dentist mouthwash. It's actually poisonous in larger amounts. (7g kills an average adult)

I always associate root beer with the smell of the black birch tree. I remember as a kid, snapping of small branches and smelling that glorious smell!

We have a nice local root beer that is very popular around here:

My favorite bottled root beers growing up were Frosty and IBC (I'm from St.Louis) and in-person at the old A&W drive-in on Manchester Blvd.
Today I still find Barqs to be tasty and the current IBC is okay. Just my 2¢.

Dad's. If you want to relive old memories of what "pop" used to taste like find a bottle of Dad's Red Cream Soda. Odd Lots carries it. I don't know what red has to do with cream, but we love that crap as a kid.

Still see Dominion Root Beer in bottles, but my daughter used to love the draft Dominion they had at Hard Times Chili Parlors when they were still around.
