What's you Favorite ROOT BEER?

I like Barqs. My all time favorite though is/was Western Family store brand.

It tasted like a liquid rootbeer barrel.
Root Beer Barrel candy is the bomb! Ate at a bbq joint a month ago and at the counter they had a bowl filled with them. I hadn't seen them in decades,I grabbed st least 20 and told the girl working there I used to suck on em in elementary school. It took me back for sure.

I remember those candies. I can't remember the last time I had one.

Once upon a time I used to hate root beer, then I discovered Mug's in the stubby bottle and was instantly addicted. It actually used to form a HEAD like real beer. Haven't seen any in YEARS. Doubt if it tastes the same (like everything else.)

I was once told, by a man much smarter than me, that your favorite pizza is the first one that you tasted as little kid. Maybe Root beer is the same. Some of the brands posted I wouldn't drink if you put a gun to my head. It's all good though, we like what we like. :)

Now, I love me a good root beer, and have consumed many brands in my travels, but, IMHO, Boylan`s Creamy Red Birch Beer takes a smokin` dump on all of `em !
Do yourself a favor, and track this stuff down (it`s brewed in NJ), you`ll probably see what I`m talking about....

I took a break from yardwork yesterday and drank one. It was tasty and hit the spot.

I've been liking Frostop lately. How about you? I haven't had a Root beer float in ages, but that will change!!!

Last month I stumbled across an actual old style drive-in restaurant ( they still have car hops) on St. George Utah be that serves fountain Frostop in iced mugs.
Not my favorite root beer, but just for the novelty of how it's served worth having.

The waitress who served us stated there are only 4 of these restaurants left in the US

When we were young my Dad would stop by the A&W and bring home a half gallon glass jug freshly poured: not shipped that way.

Anybody else recall that experience?

Probably hadn't seen them in decades because everyone before you took 20....

Just messin' with you of course .... I also love those. For years and years my mom was absolutely addicted to them.

A fun thread this one. I ended up reading this and also googling more Root Beer info. I'm a guy who likes his Root Beer with a bite, so it sounds like Dad's and Barqs are a couple of commonly available candidates.

For those of you that remember the old root beers made with cane sugar, Fitz's in St Louis is what you are looking for. Real sugar just tastes better.

On occasion, my parents would treat the neighborhood kids to Rootbeer Floats. (Their house was the Mecca for kiddom). Mom or Dad would say "go home and get a glass, we are having floats". The kids would, and Dad would drive across town and bring home a gallon of A&W Rootbeer. So much fun back in the late 60's.

I remember Fitz's but don't remember the original location being in the Loop. Their history site only mentions the current one in the Loop. That's not where I remember it. Wasn't it on Clayton Rd just east of Brentwood Blvd? Near the old Tropicana Bowling Alley? Under the railroad trestle?

As I recall, they shut down shortly after a rumor of a rat being found in their tower above the restaurant where the root beer was stored?

Ahh, found this: "In any event, by May of 1947, James L. Fitzpatrick owned the root beer stand at 8060 Clayton Road, and he and his wife registered its new name with the state of Missouri on October 19, 1948. The A&W Root Beer Stand became Fitz’s Drive-In."
