Will AK's gear demo program come to an end?

I have to say, guys.....I'm really disappointed with the way things are turning out with our demo gear. We've had two amps, an antenna, cables, what not out there, and paid for by either AK or me personally for people to demo and write reviews on, and for some reason two things happen:

1. The people who have the gear shipped to them never post reviews

2. The gear ends up stalling at some place or another, usually because the people don't post a review, and therefore the next person in line doesn't know who has it.

If people aren't interested in doing the posting of reviews, we're going to have to end the program. I just hate to invest more money in stuff for people to try for free, when they don't want to take 10 minutes to post their impressions.

Tim, if you know where the FM antenna is send it along. Trying it out in my shop will be a workout that no one else would be able to give it. A review? heck yes, I used to write for a living.

I understand your frustration. It has to suck, for you, knowing that this Demo program, your baby, is not living up to its potential. For my part, I can only speak from the other side. I have been waiting many months for a chance to hear the Almarro. Likewise, I hope to learn a lot, by participating in Russ's upcoming Cable Demo program. The Godar antenna is not of much interest to me, as I live in a saturated FM market, and have NO problem getting all the stations I could ever want to hear. I don't know what other gear is available, but those two sessions would certainly be a big thing for me.

I agree that posting a review is a trivial price to pay for the opportunity to live with a different piece of gear, FOR FREE!!! For some of us, it could be a quantum shift in listening.

Perhaps the answer lies in stricter shepherding of the program. Someone keeping track of the queue; who has the gear, for how long, who is waiting for it, even tracking shipping. Those who get to demo a piece, but fail to post a review, give up any future participation in the program. No disrespect to either the reviewers or the mod, but it does seem to be fairly 'relaxed'. Maybe the demo program needs, not so much a moderator, but a 'manager'.

I do hope that the program isn't cancelled, but I agree that it MUST be productive and well supported, for AK, for the dealers/manufacturers, and for your personal satisfaction.

Say it ain't so!

It would be a disappointment if the demo program was to collapse!

I am very much looking forward to auditioning the BlueCircle amp one day, and hope to participate in the cable demo program as well.

Dunno if the timing would work, but it might even be cool to combine the two somehow....

The Blue Circle amp is headed to Piece-it Pete, then to Reyneman, then up to me to do the Canadian route, and I believe you're first on the list Henry. Beyond that, though, we will have to see.

Exactly what I mean. If the last person that had it had bothered to post anything, or move it along in a timely manner, we could have shaved another month off. If people have to be goaded to post reviews and to send gear along to the next person in line, it borders on stupidity.

I'm with Tim here.

Its usually a PITA to procure this stuff for our members to get the chance to freely demo.

Its like pulling teeth to get more then a couple of people who tested this stuff to post even the smallest review !

All the prodding in the world will not make people do what they don't want to so why bother...

It would be a shame...

to end the program, I agree. I would like to try that beautiful Almarro amp but I hadn't heard about it in so long I figured it was out of the loop already. I'm not sure about writing a pro editorial on the equipment as I'm still trying to hear what I read about but I'd be willing to at least attempt it. I don't think it's too much to ask at all for the use of some fine equipment.

Like they say though "Do what ya gotta do"

Cleve had the Almarro for over a month and Russ had the Blue Circle for about the same amount of time. Neither person has posted a review.

It's on it's way, I'll forward Tim and Pete the tracking number - I've been loaded down with packing / shipping, and dear old mom.

Cheers,
Russ

I'd certainly like to see this continue, even though I'm not currently on any list for what's going around. This is a unique opportunity offered by AK to the membership, and it's up to that membership to support it in the way it was originally intended.

My 2 pesos

Tim, I really think that you should rethink the decision to shut down the demo program............. At least until I have a chance to audition the Almarro. :D

Tim, I WAS and AM very much interested in having a listen to the Blue circle, I understand before making this comment that there is a requirement and accept said requirement.

I had posted in the Blue Cirlce thread that I, too, would be very interested in hearing that piece, as well. Naively, I envisioned a head-to-head with the Almarro.
