Willard Grant Conspiracy- related...pretty cool

WGC is one of my favorite newer artists from the last several years. The main force of the group is frontman Robert Fisher, with a large rotating support group of players from album to album. Fisher normally mines haunted places for the subjects of his songs, and performs them with a voice that reaches biblical proportions at times.

A couple days ago, I stumbled onto the fact that WGC had a new release that I hadn't heard about, so I ordered it straight from their website, and sat back to wait for the mailman. This afternoon, I got an email from Mr. Fisher himself, thanking me for the order. That's pretty fine customer service.

Very cool. One of the neat features of the 'net...making it easy to communicate with people you never figured you'd be communicating with.

Amazon has it,with a 3 week waiting period.I guess cause it is an import

The WGC website has a link to non-import price- $15 shipped. And Robert said my order was sent to the factory today, in the mail in 2-3 days.

Very cool. WGC is a phenomenal (spelling? my brain is fried after the day I had today) band. I'm quite sure I'm logging off here to go spend $15. Thanks for the info.

Looks like I'm going to have to save a few bucks, too, and get this new WGC. Thanks for turning me on to this aggregation (group is perhaps not the best word), Eric!

A little grass-roots campaigning never hurt a thing! If artistic quality and integrity had any place in the music biz, Mr. Fisher wouldn't have to work a day job.

You are right on the mark telling people about this band. If you get the chance, go see them live, absolutely stunning!
Robert fisher was a nice guy to chat too as well.

WGC is on a very short list of groups that I would commit despicable crimes to have the chance to see them perform.

Say Eric,
Is the new release you ordered on Vinyl or CD or either ?

And whats the story behind the band name ?

CD only, as far as I know. With the small production quantities involved, I suspect that a vinyl run might get expensive.

From what I recall reading several years ago, the origin of the band's name is something like this: There is no one named Willard Grant, and no conspiracy, to speak of. When the group was first getting started, Fisher and a couple other band members lived in an area of Boston known as the Willard Grant, referring, I think, to a colonial-era land grant made to someone named Willard. I believe Fisher said he threw "Conspiracy" on the end of Willard Grant just on the spur of the moment.

Thanks to Toze I just grabbed WGC's 'Let it Roll' at a local community radio station record sale for a couple of bucks. I like it. I was pleased to see that it features Twang Punker Steve Wynn from The Suspects and Dream Syndicate.
