yamaha c-4 preamp problem maybe waterdamage?

Yes you can...But its not really related to the delayed power on problem.Getting sidetracked.

ok so i used a wooden paintbrush and touched lightly, just about everything other than the resistors, including the wobbly heatsink and got no sound through my headphones.. i touched the black heatsinks that are hot though and felt a slight tingle,, is that bad? or should i not of have done that?

If your heart is still beating then it's probably OK. Most people take 'slight tingle' as a near miss and stop doing what they were doing.

Please, stop. Put the cover back on the preamp and pop the cover on the yellow pages.

I can't wait to hear what's up with his TT.

YOu took the words right out of my mouth, er, fingers I mean.

I was wondering if we should more directly let him know that all the mucking about with his equipment when he's not sure of what he's doing is dangerous?

lol i know what i was doing was dangerious, i thought it would be fine to touch at that spot considering it has black paint on it. its not like i enjoyed it

the reason id rather get help to fix it is the $$$ factor..
and its a learning experience.

oh, and for as much as it would cost for me to pay a local repair shop, i could probably just buy something new.

while in the mist of doing other things, i resoldered several connections that looked alittle weak, they are nice and shiny now! it almost makes me wanna resolder all 14 of those other ones you pointed out in the 1st photo..

also, once while working with a toy, i had touched a soldering iron to something and a light came on.. is this a common phenomia? or was it just power being stored in the toy or something? could i possibly damage equipment by touching a iron to the wrong type of component lead?? at the time i was useing a 20w iron from radioshack.

ok, so i finally removed the face and got 2 of the easy to remove boards off, verry carefully at that. and was able to take a look at that heatsink with the small transformer,, it looks like its got contact to the board, at all 3 pins, also i could tell there was no glue left, i took a photo of the 3 caps under one of the boards, http://img38.imageshack.us/i/stuff1234567del010.jpg/ and http://img17.imageshack.us/i/stuff1234567del009.jpg/
everything looks good to me, but my eyes arent trained, not that my eyes would be able to find the problem or not..

ok! so i resoldered all those connections in the photo, avionic posted, and now the unit powers up every time, as soon as i hit the button, but i still dont hear that click sound, i can hear sounds through the headphone jack, and also the outputs, but its verry quiet, even when on a amp.. do you think i possibly damaged something when i saw it arc?
should i possibly resolder the connections i did earlyier?

but i still dont hear that click sound, i can hear sounds through the headphone jack
The relay is a reed relay. And if you can hear the sound as faint as it may be then the reed relay has "set".To hear that relay you almost have to have your ear on top of it.

I do believe this is the first troubleshoot by touch-and-guess I've read here.

"oh, and for as much as it would cost for me to pay a local repair shop, i could probably just buy something new."

Somebody here would probably offer you a deal on that hard-to replace C-4 before you turn it into junk.

Well. :scratch2: If you don't know, you ask questions. If your only choice is to DIY.You ask more questions. We have all been down that road. Some people would just put it on a pile and call it a " door stop". We will see..:scratch2:

Long story...But she is singing once again..Heres some nudies..
