2240b vs 2270

Hi all,

I've been loving my 2240b but have a line on a 2270 for a more than reasonable price.

I would like to have the headroom to handle any speaker I throw at it and have also heard the higher wattage receivers sound better in the lower and medium volumes.

My question, is the 2270 worth upgrading to? Is there any difference audibly? Are there differences that effect reliability?

Anyone who has owned or heard both, I would appreciate your input. Thanks!

Unless you need more power I would stick with the 2240B. I've restored and listened to both.

Yeah I guess that's a good point. I have yet to play speakers at a volume it couldn't handle. I have my HT system for parties etc. I guess I was just liking the price and trying to justify it with "foreplanning" lol

This is an easy one. Get both!

While it's hard to argue with that logic, my daughter will have fits if she sees one more piece of gear sitting on my bench.

Looks and interior layout. More shielding and more space for if you plan on restoring it.

I've had several 2270's and one 2240b. Not at the same time but i do remember the sound character was very different between the two. The 2270 was more "laid back and darker". The 2240b had a more bright and livelier presentation. Me personally, I was never a big fan of the 2270. Which is strange because I loved my 2230 and 2245 which are virtually the same designs.

Marantz, Pioneer, Sansui, etc... of that era made the best mid powered stereos EVER.
