ADS 810's What is a fair price?

I remember when I sold a set for 250$ and It took me a few weeks… well that was 12 years ago. I’d say I’d seen the average price between 450-7 around here in New England. They usually sit on the higher end and usually go quickly at the lower end.

Iv'e got a pair of ADS 810, that are fully rebuilt and I would need about $2,000 to let them go.
Yes, those less desirable cloth grilled boxes keep the domes clear making the speaker look good.

With the prices of popular vintage stuff there might be someone willing to part with 2-large for those. Lots out there for that money, you could upgrade!

There is a pair located locally at a vintage stereo/vinyl store priced at $1250 USD plus tax.

I believe they offer a short warranty with their vintage equipment sales, however I think a price around $1000 USD plus tax would be more reasonable.

As with any piece of vintage equipment, they are worth what people are willing to pay. I have two pairs of 810’s and to my ears they sound fantastic. I’ve also owned 710’s. They are gone. Here are a couple of pairs that just sold on the big auction site to give an idea about what people are willing to pay for a pair. I’ve listed one of my pairs locally and haven’t gotten any hits after five days. Perhaps the price I’m asking is too high. But the condition is as good or better than the two in the attached photos.

I wouldn't pay that much for 1590s or 910s, let alone 810s.

Yeah, but that is you. To be honest, I wouldn’t either. But, as evidenced by the ones that sold recently for that, there are people who will. I’ve listened to L-810’s for about 5 years now and I really do like them very much. They just perform well with all types of music. I could not afford to pay a huge price for them. I bought my first pair about 5 years ago for $250 with the original stands. They were the soft grilles. The 2nd pair I paid $500. Excellent condition but no stands. That was about 2 years ago. Seemed to be the going price back then.

I bought mine for 400, they were in bad shape. Stripped sanded finished, refreshed domes, there were iron filings on the dome making the tweeter not work but cleaning them up fixed it.

Once I brought them in to A/B against the 710s, it was game over.

So did you like the 710’s over the 810’s?

Nah 810s are more open with more bass. I had already listed them and everything, so I took the listing down. Sold the 710s for 8 fiddy I think.

I sold my 710’s for 800. They were one owner and in pristine condition when I bought them. The 810’s to my ears out performed them. In today’s market imho 810’s in excellent condition should be worth 800 to 1k w/o stands. What would be better in the same or less price range. Not being smug. Just always interested in good sounding speakers in my price range. For example, my Norman model 9’s out perform the L-810’s imho and can be bought for less money.

Lot of good speakers in that 500 up price range that the 810 seems to have moved into. Some are out in the room, large speakers like the Dahlquist DQ-10 that won’t work for some. I sold my home aDs speakers as I can have those hard to find a place types, the DQs and a pair of Magneplanar MGIIIa both bought for well under 810 prices and still seen for similar money.

So would $860 USD be considered high for a pair of excellent L1230? I believe they are 100% original so they may need the drivers serviced. Do the woofers in the L1230 use rubber surrounds or foam?

I know the prices can be all over the place for vintage ADS but I'm not sure what the current value is as supply and demand has a lot to do with it.

No ADS that I know of uses foam surrounds.

You do not need to get drivers serviced 'just because'.

Almost all ADS that I've owned function perfectly well without any intervention. The caps in the crossovers are bulletproof.

800 seems like a good price for a pair of 1230s if they are physically/cosmetically in good shape, they are competitive with 1290s which go for similar prices (400-800).
