All Time Greatest Guitarist?

Isn't the OP THE all time greatest, not 10 really good ones?

OP:
Mine is probably David Gilmour or Eric Clapton or Jimi Hendix Too hard to pick just one isn't it so top 3 is the call of today, Lets try and make this a little different from others.... Top 3 Guitarists AND which song they play which puts them into your top 3!

He blew it right off the bat, but asking for THE SONG was a nice touch. :thmbsp:

Hendrix and Django are so far ahead of anyone else it's not funny

I'd say anything they played, because I would find it hard to beleive that either of them played a bum note in their life

The reason Hendrix was such a great writer was his writing was not limited to what his hands could do. They did it all. In every genre. Not just the blues.

Jimi Hendrix...by far, imho!

Others absolutely brilliant axe men are, for me, Fripp, Gilmour, Manzanera, and many others...

But Jimi was (is) on another planet!

SRV gets my vote for the greatest of all time.

Others I like:

Dickey Betts
David Gilmour
James "JY" Young
Alex Lifeson
Kerry Livgren
and crazy man Rick Nielson

Chuck Berry, for inventing rock and roll guitar
Jimi Hendrix, for taking it further than anyone else
Johnny Ramone, for taking 3 chords further than anyone else

Maybe not the most technically proficient but cool sounding none the less:
Duane Eddy
Link Wray
Poison Ivy from The Cramps
Ron Asheton from The Stooges

rock guitarists

hendrix
steve vai
joe satriani
johnny winter
duane allman
david gilmour
zappa
clapton(when he's motivated)
robin trower
warren haynes
john petrucci
jeff beck
santana
walter trout
gary moore
there's no way to narrow this down to three. this list could go on for page after page. freakin amazing.
