Another Kenwood KA-7100 recap

Hi all, am i crazy or is the BOM spoken about here on this thread as being included, is now gone yeah???

It's up in one of the quotes. Not sure where the original went. Maybe I deleted it as the part numbers were all obsolete?

Thank you for the response, I got sorted by another kind member who had a list and sent it on. Be great if you could throw your eye on my thread, I'm down a channel, any help much appreciated!

Hey guys - First post! Newbie warning! Really cool site -I have been interested in restoring vintage audio for quite a while - I had a guy who did some work for me but now has gotten out of it for some reason - so seeing how I am always coming across this stuff -thought I would try to fix some things for myself, been doing a lot of studying which has finally led me to this site and this thread.

I had given my son a 7100 probably 15 yrs or so ago - and now for some years he has had it in the closet because it slowly stopped producing sound -so from what I gather it's a relay thing -so I replaced q34 - c41 used (nichicon) and c15-18 (with cheap amazon caps would like to replace with some quality stuff)as well as c39 but still no relay click -also I did something stupid was using AI to help.

Well that didn't work, it had told me after doing tests upon tests that there was volts at r53 that shouldn't be there and told me to jump from negative pin 7 to that and as soon as I did that a little puff of smoke coming from the power board, turns out that the board is labeled wrong it says 7 6 8 on the bottom but 8 6 7 on the top so I had jumped it with the + side.

Anyway before I did anything there was some high dc on r72 and 70 ,now I think I fried some caps as well - c27 for sure possibly 28 -anyway I decided to just try my hand at rebuilding it and saw that there was supposed to be a parts list here but don't see it. I really wanted to find out what the initial problem was but fear I have created more. Can anyone give me some advice on where to start, I'm pretty sure it had to do with the right channel to begin with.Possibly some advice on to accessing the damage? Main caps are all around 6.68 with varying v from 47.4 2 @47.6 and one @ 47.1. Thanks -sorry for the rambling...

Hey guys - First post!

DBT would be a nice tool to have. Maybe a cheap transistor from Amazon.

There are a few resto threads on the 7100.

I'd suggest reading them. I've worked on a few and really like their sound.

Download the service manual and read it.

Check PS and protection and compare voltages with the schematic.

Use paragraph breaks to improve readability. No idea what you posted above.

Hey- Thanks for the reply and suggestions -been reading as many of them as possible - also like I said complete newbie at this - Already made a DBT

Does anyone still have the BOM for this project? I have hunted for this to no avail. Thanks!

This thread is SO old now, any BOM would have at least 50% of the parts no longer available or otherwise out of stock.

This forum is all about people helping others. No offense meant, but a lot of people come on here just looking for BOMs without doing any of the legwork themselves. You would be doing a great service to this forum by building a BOM of current parts. I can help by providing the guts of the old BOM I used to use. You can import it into Excel by cutting the text below, pasting it into Notepad, saving as a text file, and then renaming to a CSV file. Excel should then pick up the commas, and put all the data in the correct cells. For power supply caps, look for low impedance types. For signal path work, look for low leakage or film caps.
