Boycotts

The NJ Transit authority is limiting commuter traffic during a several hour stretch when WC matches are played in NJ. Not only can’t you take the train home from work but WC fans will be paying 10X the typical price for the ride. In order to assure everyone gets their pockets stuffed they are even limiting parking and vehicle access.

I am surprised every match isn’t on pay per view for $79

Beyond boycotting there is a genuine discomfort with the idea of having travel difficulties with visas and equipment for the clubs, their fans and the support staff. Rules are arbitrarily applied by field agents and when in doubt it’s simply “no, you’re not coming in”

I thought it was bad when I lived in Phoenix and the annual golf tournament would mess up my commute due to traffic pattern changes!!

And they wonder why people loose their composure...

Still there's nothing like a cold one and a Vienna Beef at Wrigley or a nice cold Bud at Busch! They just seem to taste better there. lol
For the price, they better taste better than store-bought, but there's also the psychological factor.

The only price-gouging I am actually ok with is beer. Very little in this world fuels stupidity better than alcohol. Combine mob mentality and sports rivalry and, personally, I'm ready to ban alcohol sales at sporting events. You wanna get loaded?? Watch the game at home.

Then there goes our game day side entertainment, watching fools be fools. :naughty:

I'm a big MLB fan (St. Louis Cardinals) and still pay the $150 per year (it went up - it used to be $125) for the complete MLB.TV package plus get the "Cardinals TV" package which would normally be another $50 for free because I complained to DIRECTV about the cost. They let you spread the payments out to $50 every 3 months so it isn't as painful. It's kind of expensive but you get to see all 162 games from every team so it works out to be less than $1 per game if you would only watch one per day. Sometimes I watch more than one per day or at least have it on in the background while doing other things.

You can also stream the games on a mobile device and it gives you the option of which team's broadcast you want. I sometimes like to listen to the opposing team's broadcast to hear what they are saying about the Cards. There are also two radio audio options so if you want you can watch the game with the local radio broadcasts "KMOX" as the soundtrack.

I'm watching the Cards beat Astros right now. Cards won 9-4. The Astros have the best offense in baseball but their pitching is the worst. The Cardinals are young but have a lot of talent. Pitching is their weakness too.

It is kind of "greedy" by the MLB I guess, but back in the days you didn't to see every game from every team at any cost so that's one thing that is better if you are a big fan like I am.

I used to get the NFL package too (Philadelphia Eagles fan) but dropped it because I didn't watch it as much plus you get to see more NFL games for free. Baseball is expensive enough.

Here's Right Fielder Jordan Walker. One of the hottest hitters in baseball so far batting .319 with a 12 game hitting streak and league-leading 8 homers. He's a young superstar in the making. He's 6'6" tall and weighs 250 lbs. Unbelievable power.

I'm a huge Tigers fan. The past two seasons I got the MLB streaming package for free because we use T-Mobile. I've seen all games except one this season so far!

40% of your cable or satellite bill is already going for sports. If they make it all PPV your bil won't go down. Greed. Get D1 ball out of college and call it what it is, semi pro. These aren't student athletes anymore. It's out of control. Lower my cable bill by 40% and get rid of all of it, I wouldn't miss it. LIV golf is done.

FIFA, which is leaps and bounds larger & wealthier then the NFL

Gianni Infantino is not a likeable a person and wears his greed & corruption with a smug pride.

FIFA & GI are tone deaf and this is but just one instant of their own self importance thus why a lot of folks are considering boycotting the 2026 WC

FIFA, which is leaps and bounds larger & wealthier then the NFL, has really made a mess of things for this WC.

FIFA might be larger but I don't know about them being wealthier. Here's from the internet..........

The NFL is worth significantly more than FIFA as a business entity, despite soccer having a much larger global audience. While FIFA governs the most popular sport in the world, its financial structure as a non-profit and its primary reliance on the quadrennial World Cup results in lower annual revenue and organizational valuation compared to the NFL's highly commercialized, year-round franchise model.

Financial Comparison
The NFL generates more annual revenue than any other single sports league, while FIFA's income is heavily tied to the four-year World Cup cycle.

National Football League (NFL)
$28 Billion Per Year

FIFA (Federation Internationale de Football Association)
$10.9 Billion Per Year

Net Worth (Two Largest Teams)
Dallas Cowboys: $10.32 Billion
Real Madrid: $6.6 Billion

Key Differences in Valuation
  • Revenue Stability: The NFL benefits from massive, long-term domestic broadcasting deals (ESPN, Fox, NBC) that provide steady billions annually. FIFA’s revenue is volatile, peaking during World Cup years and dropping significantly in off-years.
  • Franchise Rarity: The NFL’s closed-system model (no relegation) and fixed number of teams (32) create extreme scarcity, driving team valuations higher than even the world's most famous soccer clubs.
  • Audience vs. Monetization: Soccer has an estimated 4 billion fans globally compared to the NFL’s 400 million. However, the NFL is far more effective at monetizing its smaller, wealthier U.S. base through high-priced TV ads and sponsorships

The NBA talked about a shorter season and it needs to but the greed there won't let it happen. Hockey is the worst it goes on far to long.
Hockey is the only sport I watch, I wish they played year round. When the Stanley Cup is over I get a little tear in my eye.
