Bozak B-300 Urban speakers

How much would anyone pay for a mint pair of these. Just wondering what I should pay? They look perfect.
Pay what you're comfortable with and get them home. :) Discussions of valuation belong in the Dollars & Sense Forum so if you move this thread to there you can get some numbers from people.

Agreed this should be in Dollars & Sense BUT...

I picked up my pair of B-300s this summer to fulfill one of my audio "Bucket Lists"; Tobin mod to follow. Their legendary reputation and maniacal following is well-deserved; they are quite simply, absolutely amazing.

Pay what you think is necessary to get them... run, don't walk. They are not being made any longer, are highly coveted and becoming more difficult to find in mint condition.

Check the Bozak Yahoo and Facebook page...

i had my eye on a pair for sale for pretty long time now, (shame he is pretty far from me, about 2.5H drive each direction)

The guy sells it for 400$, it got refoamed about 2 years ago so it should be fine condition.
question is how those sound in small room?, and when i say small they will be about 1-1.5m from each other and 2-2.5m from listening spot.

Not nearly as good as they will in a larger room placed further apart and sitting position much further back.:(

I had a pair of Bozak 301CD speakers for a while, they were great and would work in a smaller room. I regret that I sold them off when I had way more speakers than I could handle. I sold them before I had any tube amps, I'm sure that I wouldn't have let them go if I had heard them on tubes.o_O

wow thats a very good cndition for their age!

so I guess u didnt had a chance to listen to the B300, personally Im fantasizing on 12" 15" woofer vintage speakers atm, but again i need to remind myself my room size :(

EDIT: i see now that the 301 has 12" lol, looked like 10-9" from that picture

Again, if you have any aspirations for Bozaks, GET THEM! They are wonderful speakers and, according to my tech with 40+ years experience, are WAY undervalued on today's market. Room size and spacing be damned, those are important details that can be dealt with AFTER you get your pair (or two).

I am searching for my first tube amp because of my Bozaks. Many, many owners swear they should be driven with tubes.

I had a refurbished pair of 302A's, aluminum mids and tweeters, along with the center cabinet, upgraded with $200 worth of audio grade caps and resistors with the Tobin 104a mods, advertised for $500 for weeks and couldn't get a nibble. There's a good looking pair of 302A's on our local CL as well, been up for $800 for as long as I've been watching, I'd imagine that guy has had similar results.

So I'd say something less than $500.

They are a fantastic sounding speaker.

bs

lol maybe you are forgetting how horribly important is room size? :)

btw what is the diffrences between the B300 and the B302A? they look similiar to me on the outside...

What, you can't buy a bigger house? :naughty:
:D

AFAIK, the B300s have just the coaxial woofer/tweet, while the B302 adds a separate midrange driver.
so its not something you cant add to the B300,
damn I knew they were special but this thread made me want to get them even more, i will make a call to the guy to see how much he can take off the original price, if it will be low enough i might get them. but the chances are low because the price isnt my only problem atm (no more room to storage speakers, especially those O_O)

you got any exprience with the 302A in a small room?

I ran my B302A's (5 cubic foot boxes) in a 12x14 room and they performed far better than anyone might give them credit for. Huge, easy warm bass & mid-bass that's exceptionally detailed. They'll go from mid 1950's classic cuban Jazz to Justin Timberlake without breaking a sweat. The midrange is also wide open, exceptionally detailed without being harsh. The aluminum cone B200Y tweeter begin to come down between 9 and 10k. However, in that range they do what they do very well.

Rudy Bozak preferred solid state power, very clean solid state power. No matter what you choose to run them, you want the good stuff.

The Bozak B199 12" woofer is a lousy full-range driver. Sure, you can run it with the tweeter array with just the standard 4uF cap. This was done to save customers the expense of adding the B209B midrange and the N10102 3-way crossover. I would not recommend leaving the B300 as a 2 way system. Ultimately, find the mid and update the N10102 crossover and make yourself a world-class B302A out of the B300's.

Remember, the mods that I have listed is nothing that Bozak hasn't already done. You are not ruining the factory originals. Bozak centered itself around building up as money afforded. You can see that in that B300, there is a cutout all ready for the B209B mid.

I'm positive that had I paired them with either of the tube amps I acquired after selling them, I never would have sold them. :( BTW they did come with the original grills.

Like JBL and EV, Bozak offered speakers on an "upgrade path" so you could buy what you could afford at one time, and add the other parts as you went. There's no cabinet difference between a B300 and a B302 other than the blockoff plate over the midrange on the B300. Install the midrange and three-way crossover, and you have a B302.
